Month: July 2004

  • Well, I just learned that we have yet another teen idol that's gaining
popularity, and I've got to ask how young do they have to be nowadays?
The thing is that I actually have heard one of her songs on the radio,
but I didn't realize that it was a thirteen year old singing it! JoJo is her name and she's suppose to be really popular with the MTV - TRL crowd.  Lord have mercy on us all.

On other notes, I went to see Harold
and Kumar Go To White Castle
.  Lot's of fun from the creators of
"Dude, Where's My Car?" Good stuff if you like that silly random comedy
humor. Next up is the Village and the Bourne Supremacy.

  • Alright, Day 4 is over, as well as half of my day of rest. But here's the update, finally.
First off, howabout two videos from the masquerade show from Saturday night ey?
    http://patrick005.com/vids/sdcc2004/masquerade1.WMV

That Sunday morning, I checked out of my hotel room, and I've got to say that I do not mind reserving over there next year (The Westin Horton Plaza Hotel). I also liked their quick check out method, very nice.

Since the past two days I didn't get much walk time down stairs at the
dealer's room, sunday is usually the day I go back for another
run.  I ended up buying another t-shirt and a DVD, but nothing
else, so it wasn't too bad on my wallet. Wait, actually it was, by the
time I left the Con, I was down to $10.
What I did notice this time around though, is that there aren't as much
costumed folks this Sunday compared to last year's Sunday.  Where
were all the masquerade competitors? Hardly anyone of them stuck around
long enough.  It could be because of all the bulk in their
    costumes.

    On to the panels upstairs!

While waiting for the Serenity panel, I sat in for the Shaun of the
Dead presentation. I'm glad I did, because I now SSOOOO want to watch
it (Official site for Shaun of the Dead) as well as the TV series Spaced, that the creators are also famous from (Spaced - summary & cast).

Right afterwards the Serenity panel began, and Joss Whedon and the whole cast of Firefly / Serenity was given a huge
    and long standing ovation
They deserve it, damn I love that
show, and wished it wasn't so short lived on TV.  The panel was in
utter chaos with questions, answers, and just the rapport between the
cast was just wonderful (like all good panels should be).  Unfortunately, they were
only given a one hour presentation.  But they at least did show a
trailer for their movie : Serenity (spring 2005 - support it damnit!).
As soon as the panel ended, we all headed for the line of their
autograph section, and one minute later the line is already full.
Sadly, I'm not in that line that is already full. Tough break and it
was hard to take pictures through the crowd around them.

After that, I ended up in the dealer's room again, to see if there's
anything else I missed... or anyone.  There IS this one person
that I wanted to see, whom I've seen for two years in a row now. 2002
she was Psylocke and 2003 she was
    Voodoo
and she even got a few seconds in a scene from Comic Book the Movie.
For 2004, I know she is Kosmos from the game Xenoxaga since she finally
entered the Masquerade ball and I was surprised to see her on stage.
Walking around the dealer's room, I pretty much gave up and was headed
for the door to go home when lo and behold...

So there she was.  She understandably did not remember me, but
that's okay. I started talking to her a bit, which must have annoyed
her boyfriend / husband (don't know), and then I got her picture. I
then came back around to see her again, and asked her for a
favor.  I told her that last year, I asked her to do an action
    shot of her with me
, so I asked her if she can do another one, and well....the picture speaks for itself.  *sigh* I guess I'm crushing on her a bit.

    So I was a
happy guy, the day couldn't end any better as far as I'm
concerned.  Went for my car, and ended up driving 2hrs 30 mins
    going home (DAMN TRAFFIC!).

p.s. Are these not one of the best Xena impersonators you've ever seen?

alright, I'm done.  I'll continue updating more stuff about Comic Con 2004 at http://patrick005.com/sdcc2004/

  • ah the Comic Con, 'tis almost over.  Saturday was quite a
day.  I woke up really late in the morning and missed the Simpsons
panel, but I made it for Smallville.  I got a lousy seat for that
though, so the pics were kinda screwed.  John Glover was the life
of the panel.  They also had Allison Mack and introduced Erica
Durance as Lois Lane for 13 episodes. After the panel, there
was a HUGE line at the authograph section for the cast. You'd think it
    was Beatlesmania or something.

I then headed down to check out the Sin City panel with Frank Miller,
Robert Rodriguez, Jamie King, Rosario Dawson, and Jessica Alba.
They proceeded to show some clips from the movie, and I've got to give
it my approval at what they are doing.  Can't wait for a release.

I then decided to walk around the very crowded shoulder to shoulder traffic dealers room, and it seems "glass caged girl's back!"  Speaking of scantily clad ladies, VH1's Best Week Ever was interviewing the girls of one of the booths. Yowza!

I then checked out the Sky Captain panel (looks great!), and then the
Grudge panel with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jason Behr.  Sarah
Michelle was great for being her first appearance at the
comic-con.  She was very relaxed, cracked a lot of jokes, and was
just simply very lovely.  I could practically have fallen in love
with her.  It also became a running joke that everybody was
directing the major majority of questions to Sarah and not to Jason.

oh, did you want to see what happens when room 27 is the designated room to give out free goodies?

Then it was time to line up for the masquerade, so I bring you some
pics below.... "Beast Boy" from Cartoon Network's Teen Titans became
the crowd favorite for his dancing and enthusiasm. There were a lot of
great costumes this year (52 entries) and I imagine it was hard to decide who the
    winners were.

and once again, more pics for the guys...

  • Greetings again from San Diego. Friday was tons better than the first
one, probably because I got to enjoy some panels.  Keanu Reeves +
18 minutes of Constantine movie clips. Eliza Dushku. A whole episode of
the Batman animated series.  And ofcourse, more photos photos
    photos.

What's funny is that my friend who went with me to the Con was really beat
and tired.  So at about 8pm, I took him back home...which is like
a 110mile one way trip.... I had no problems with that since he is
willing to pay his share of the hotel as if he is still staying
here...and gas, he will pay for gas. My only beef with that is that I
missed a sneak preview of "My Big Fat Independent Movie."  So
after dropping him off I immediately headed back to San Diego.  It
then dawned on me that maybe I could have called Peter or Kenny and
asked if they wanted to go for the weekend, especially since I was then
only 20 miles away from them.  But alas I was already in motion
for San Diego, so too bad, maybe next year. nyah nyah nyah

Then I went back, stayed in my room for awhile then decided to go visit
my other friends' who are staying at another hotel.  I started
walking the streets of  San Diego when I realized that it's
already 12:45AM and I am roaming around alone.  Talk about asking
to get mugged! But I kept my wits aboot and nothing bad happened.

But enough of that.  Today's featured pics are of some of the stars that showed up for the comic-con.

    respect yo! It's Keanu!

Have some faith, it's Eliza Dushku!

    Jessica Biel in the house!

Keep in mind that these shots were taken when me
and my 10x optical zoom camera were more or less 75 feet away from the subject.  So let the quality speak for
    itself.

Now, some bonus pics just for the guys (and there's still more than these too)....

Well it's been inquired to me as to what exactly the "girl in the glass
case"  does.  Well howabout some of those videos I mentioned
to give you an idea? (video edited & compressed 1.5megs)
Keep in mind that they did this on Thursday, but
did not repeat this form of "advertisement" for Friday.  We'll
just have to wait about Saturday and Sunday now won't we?

*edited to remove links of huge video files*

  • GREETINGS FROM SAN DIEGO!!!!! ComiCon Thursday was hella busy for a
Thursday.  That means it's going to be hella busier the next two
days. Yowza! I also went and paid for my tickets for 2005 already, and
I became badge number 68. Sixty-eight! Damnit, if I waited one more
person I would have been number 69 !!!

Anyways I'm beat for the day, there weren't any panels that I wanted to
see (they're all in the next three days). I did however spent
practically five to six hours walking from one end of the exhibit hall
to the other end.  Talk about huge.

I was also able to meet these film makers though, and they've invited
me to consider helping them out on their next projects.  E-mails
have been exchanged, so we'll see how it goes there for the future.

Alright, for now here are three pictures for you folks....

aaarrrgghhhh, he's messing up my hair!!!!

I have a couple more pictures of her and her replacement. I also took ten second .avi clips of both (I love my new camera).

These guys are sooo cute.  I also took .avi clips of these two.
    so cute.

  • allriigghhttyyy theennn, I'm off to San Diego for the Comic-Con International !!!
I'll be back home Sunday night, July 25, plus I got another day off from work on Monday, so it's all cool.

  • I guess some people are getting the wrong impression about my all
nighter so I thought I'd put it this way.  I've been awake since
Tuesday July 20, 12PM and I don't plan to sleep until Wednesday July 21
9PM.  That way I can wake up on Thursday July 22 3:45AM.  I'm
not crazy enough to pull an all-nighter today (weds) and then go drive
to San Diego the next morning. Considering where I'm going, I'm not
going to go back to bed until very late Thursday.

  • BEWARE OF EVIL DOG!!!!!

on another note, I've been awake for 16 hours already, and I don't plan
to sleep until another 16 hours later.  Why? Because I need to
wake up really early on Thursday for my drive to San Diego (gotta avoid
traffic you know). If I sleep now, there's no way for me to go back to
sleep until the following morning when I would be driving.  Let's
see if I'll be able to pull this through without a nap because I'm not
    THAT young anymore.

  • Well tonight at work was relatively an easy one, I had to train a new
Lead (area supervisor) in my area.  Sure that's another person
that might move in on my location, but eh what they hey... anyways, she
already knows the way I work as a Lead so she has an advantage to
figure out how to do things.  However she is a little stubborn in
trying out my work proven methods and decided to do things her
way.  I'm usually one that is open for people using their own
styles, but her method seemed a bit unorthodox.  With that in
mind, I let it go, in fact, I practically didn't really do much
training, and just let her go through the night mostly on her
own.  If she had a question, I was there to ask, and if I noticed
any glaring problems, I told her about them.

So at the end of the night she asked me if things are usually this
difficult, which kinda surprised me because I thought it was a
breeze...hehehe...that's right, I didn't do jack crap! What do you think, should I have actually trained her more, or did I do the right thing in making her learn the hard way?
