Month: September 2004

  • So I got a visit from one of my neighbors today, which in itself is
surprising because I never really associate myself with them.  It
turns out she is one of the neighborhood watchdogs and she informed me
that she had to call 9-11 because she saw two young african american
guys try and hop over the fence of the house across the street.
I've actually briefly seen those two kids too when I stepped out to
    check on the mail.

We then got into a conversation about how there are all these stupid
things that have been happening in my neighborhood lately, and we're
pretty much a suburban type town.  A Honda civic was stolen nearby
where I live, a house on a street nearby was grafiteed on, people
having sex in a car right in front of somebody's house, cars getting
pelted with eggs or mustard getting poured on them, etc...

what's worse is that the city cops have a ho-hum attitude of the whole
thing with no real intent to do anything about it.  It's like they
don't care that these things are happening and would rather pull people
over for speeding.  What's even more worse is when they try and imply that
it's our own fault if something happens.  I swear, I am openly
saying that I have NO CONFIDENCE with my city's police force.

It's sad, when you sometimes feel like a prisoner in your own home.

  • I'm really luvin Green Day's newest album : American Idiot
In fact, I can't get enough of it, and have been listening to it
everyday since it's release.  I've also kept listening to "Jesus
of Suburbia" a lot of times, because that's currently my most favorite
track of the whole album (and it's a 9 minutes long track).

I've been a fan of Green Day since Dookie, but I wavered in
the late 90's and didn't even bother to pick up Warning. But with this album
brings back my love for them. As they have said before, this is a "punk
opera" of an album, and I'm digging it. This album is unlike any of
their previous works (it's not Dookie part two) because of the way it's
structured. When I listened to this album, it actually felt like I was
listening to the soundtrack of a musical or a showtune. I still have
yet to see if Random play will actually affect the feel of the album
because of that. This is Green Day doing a concept album, that in turn
could actually end up on broadway or film.

Besides the fact that I love the whole album, if I was to choose specific tracks that stand out, it would be....

    American Idiot

    Jesus of Suburbia (five parts)
    Blvd. of Broken Dreams

    Are We Waiting

    Letterbomb

Wake Me Up When September Ends

    Homecoming (five parts)

  • So I ditched my friend's foam party the past friday night
.  Well, he told me a few things from what I missed...

    1) there was a parking problem, because the local businesses knew that
he was throwing the gig and they started charging peeps.  My
friend had to compensate roughly $300 since he promoted free parking
    for the party.

    2) A LOT of people showed up and the place was packed.

    3) He said there were lots of girls who showed up, and it was about
four to five girls to ONE guy.  That's quite the ratio.

    4) If you've seen the movie "Napoleon Dynamite," then you are probably
familiar with the character "Pedro."  Well the actor is a friend
of my friend, and he even DJ'ed for the gig.

    5) Unlike last time when the party went from 10PM - 2AM, this time
around there were so many people that it was from 9PM - 3:30AM.
Ironically, I could have made it for the last two hours, but I didn't
    know.  Darn.

Oh well, maybe next time.  He said he got a gig to throw another
foam party this weekend, but the establishment didn't fall through with
the deal.  So it's not going to happen.  He doesn't know
exactly when the next one will be, but he'll keep me posted.

  • Well, this is the week that I'm back at graveyard shift, 9:30pm -
6:00am, five days straight.  I really should be asleep right now
because I have to be awake in five hours, and I'm going to need to be
awake for at least nineteen hours before I'm going to get a chance to
sleep again after that. But what the hey, I'm a glutton for punishment
    that way I suppose.

  • So I went to the newly opened "Ramona's Macaroni Grill" near where I live.  At first
I was thinking, "cool, I get to eat some baked macaroni, 'cuz I LOVE
baked macaroni."  In fact, I believe I even said, "surely, they
must have baked macaroni, because after all, the place IS called
Ramona's MACARONI and grill."  So I opened the menu
expecting to see Macaroni this and macaroni that, but nnooooooo,
there's nothing to do with Macaroni at all.  Basically, where's my
baked macaroni?!   Why is the place called "Ramona's MACARONI grill" if there's NO macaroni on the menu?  Am I missing something there?  Maybe somebody should point it out to me.

Originally, I was going to go to my friend's foam party again,
but alas that was not going to be, because due to the damn Macaroni
grill that didn't even have baked macaroni, I wasn't able to go to the
8PM showing of Shaun of the Dead.  We even had to wait 1hr20mins
before getting seated.  I ended up needing to go to the
10:35PM showing of the movie, which pretty much meant that I wasn't
    going to go to
    the foam party.  Sorry Alfredo.

    Shaun of the Dead
was a pretty good movie, and simply didn't disappoint me.  It was
fun and romantic (but with Zombies - don't say the Z word!).
Since my girlfriend couldn't go to the movie, me and my two friends
went.  Surprisingly; or actually not surprisingly, there were a
lot of couples that attended.  Date movie I guess. Either way,
it's worth a watch.  What's funny too is that I imagined that what
the characters did in the movie wouldn't be too far off to what me and
my friends would probably have done.

  • Well it was the day of the awards at work,
and I'm here to inform you all that I was able to get the runner-up
award for Leadership.  The person who actually won the leadership
award for my department deserved it anyways, in fact I even voted for
her to begin with. So congrats to her! So she got the trophy thingee
while I was given a glass plaque with engravings and stuff, so it's
pretty cool too.  It's something I can put in my resume at least.
Remember when I said I wasn't going to attend?
Well, the company pretty much decided for me and pulled me two hours
after I started work to attend the awards.  Oh well, no big deal,
as I am afterall getting paid to go to it.

I also picked up X-Men Legends
for the xbox.  As I type this I haven't even opened up the shrink
wrap.  I definetely want to give myself the chance to play it
though (especially the multiplayer portion), but between Fable, Burnout
3, and everything else, I don't know how much time I've got with it.
I'll post impressions when I get a chance though.

    Smallville Season 4 premiere
has finally arrived and gone!  Woah, what an episode.  I was
pretty much giddy with joy from watching what was going on.  If
the writers keep up the mythological aspects of the show like they did
in Season three, then I'm going to be a happy camper in this life
post-Buffy&Angel (ofcourse there IS still Alias and 24).
Now the current debate online is who is better, Lana or Lois? I find
them both equally hot! Lana has that "cute hot" while Lois has
that "pretty hot." Either way, I'm liking having Lois as part of the
show, her straight-forward attitude and humor is a lot more to my
liking than Lana's mopish personality of the past three seasons, or
Chloe's "I'm better than this" persona. I'm just glad that the writers
are more or less burying the hatchet on the whole Clark and Lana
situation. It wasn't really going to go anywhere, so the teasing had to
stop sometime. Ofcourse there is a rumor that they will once again lock
lips this season, so we'll see if it's completely buried.  They
did show a lot of sexiness in Lana in the episode (the nakedness of it
all), so that'll always keep the fans choosing between the two.
I've got to say it again.... The new season is finally here! Woo hoo!

"Kristen Bell's pretty cute."  That's the first thing I said when I saw the promo for "Veronica Mars."
Well, the marketing and casting crew did their job, because I went to
go watch the premiere. I'M GLAD I DID.  The episode showed sooo
much promise that this show is now in my "must see" list.
Veronica Mars herself is such a great character, I'm pretty much coming
back mostly for her.  Her one liners and her monologues are very
entertaining, in fact she actually reminds me of Buffy. She's just
hella cool.  Hopefully UPN will keep it going for a long time.

    I've also seen ABC's "Lost"
which was quite intriguing so far, and it's like a "serious version" of
Giligan's Island mixed with Jurassic Park and Survivor.  It felt like a movie actually, so the budget
must be pretty darn high for the network.  It hasn't entirely
grabbed me yet, but I'm interested enough to watch the next
episode.  We'll see how it goes.

  • Well, I'm currently at work right now using my laptop connected to my cellphone going online and I felt the urge to make a post....

The past four day weekend of mine (Friday - Monday) I really didn't do
that much.  I went out with friends, spent some time with my
girlfriend, spent time with my dog, watched TV, and played video
games.  It may sound like I had a boring weekend, but let me tell
you this....My God was that one of the most relaxing weekends I've ever
had. Seriously, I haven't done "nothing" like that since I was in high
school, and that was a decade ago.  To tell you the truth, I
honestly kinda wish to have those kinds of days back.  Doing
nothing, relaxing, and having no stress.  I swear I'm becoming an
"old man," because I'm now saying that kids today don't know how good
    they've got it.

If I won a lot of money and can retire early... I would literally do "nothing."
