Month: January 2005

  • The past months, I've gotten more chances to listen to the Kevin &
Bean show from KROQ 106.7 Los Angeles
.  The past week they've been
trying out a new segment for the show called "the burning
question."  It's when they do a quick debate between the casts as
well as calls from listeners.  Something can easily EASILY fall
flat in their faces and become something unentertaining.  But they
surprised me and pulled through by making a debate quite humorous. The
first time they had that segment it was "cake vs pie" and some
arguments were some amusing things like "only with cake do you have a
stripper jumping out of it." Very compelling argument right there ey?
Today the burning question was "boxers vs briefs" and to my great
surprise briefs actually won.  I always thought that boxers are
definitely the most popular between the two, but with an argument like
"women don't like sagging balls and briefs helps keep them up" I
suppose I can see why it won.

In the Howard Stern show today, they had a caller who had sex with her
step son.  But that's not just it.  She had sex with her
step-son in the condo's public jacuzi, by the request of her husband,
while the step-son's girlfriend was sleeping in the living room, AND
the grandparents were sleeping in the other room!  Not only that,
but she had sex with her step-son two more times that same night, and
they intend to continue that kind of relationship.  The husband
then went on the air and told us that he wants her to have sex with
other strangers while he is hiding in the closet watching.  Wild
wild stuff there!  It makes me wonder if the FCC is going to fine
Stern for this story, even though they didn't get into any graphic
    details whatsover.

That Stern broadcast was the east coast live feed that I heard, and as
I'm typing this at 6:35am, you might still be able to hear that segment
at about 7:35am - 8:10am with the west coast repeat feed.

  • here's a comment I read online...

There are so many problems with TV...(rant)

I will list them by channel...

    Comedy Central: They show the
same episodes of Madtv every day. I had finals last week so on
wednesday I came home from school at 12:50, turned on the TV and
witnessed some stupid skit "whooda thunk it" So I turned the tv off.
Then the next day at the same time, they had the SAME show on. I have
noticed this on other occasions as well. Comedy Central also shows the
same episodes of Drawn Together on wednesday and thursday. This doesn't
make sense to me, and I don't like it.

    VH1: We get it, your
three new shows are Strangelove, Celebrity Fit Club, and The Surreal
Life, this doesn't mean that you have to repeat them over and over and
show commercials for them at the same time. If I turned on the tv to
VH1, I would probably see one of those shows.

MTV: What can I say that hasn't already been said? No more videos. MTV sucks, end of story.

G4ttv: Look above and replace MTV with G4ttv and videos with good shows.

    E!:
All I really see on this network is that new Elektra behind the scenes
special. Other than that, no real complaints. They show Howard Stern,
    what can I say.

Food Network: More Alton Brown, less of Rachel
Ray. God, can she have an opinion other than, "This food is SOOO good."
I could accomplish what her show accomplishes in 30 minutes in 2
minutes. I would go on the Internet, print out some restaurant
locations and descriptions, and say, "The food here is orgasmic!" Done.

    I'm done.

Here's MY comment to that, as well as a general commentary...

Your best bet to enjoy TV is be a selective TV viewer. If you only
watch the shows you actually like, then you will be happier with TV.
Now, to find shows you actually like, do it the old fashion way, go by
word of mouth (friends, internet, ads, or even commercials), check out
the show, then see if you like it.

    The
Nielsen ratings prey on channel surfers and base their numbers on those
people. Selective TV viewers is still something they do not put into
account. We live in a TiVo thinking society right now (record, then
watch later, fast forward through commercials), and the nielsen,
networks, and advertisers do not like it one bit.

    Ofcourse, if
there really isn't anything on TV that you want to watch, then don't
watch it. We also live in a DVD viewing society, where we can watch TV
shows through that medium. You also have video games to pass the time
too, if you are so inclined.

There may be a lot of problems with TV, but there are also a lot of solutions for them.

    every year?

  • Man, I got some distressing news in my personal life and it got me all
depressed.  I got so depressed I believe I actually got
sick.  Symptoms were that I was getting flushed, eyelids felt
really heavy, I was extremely tired, running nose, etc...  I was
so down on myself, I just wanted to lie down and stay there.  I
still went to work though as I figured that would distract me from my
problems.  I then came upon a box on a desk at the office which
was a fund raising box selling chocolate bars.  When you're
depressed, what's the best thing to eat? CHOCOLATE!  I bought two
of them, and what can I say, I got a lot better to the point of being
back to my normal self.  All hail the mighty Gods of cocoa!

  • This year I vow to do something that I've been neglecting to do for a
couple of years now, go to the movies more often (I guess I should add
this to my NY resolutions).  I remember years ago I would actually
see a movie in the theaters at least once a week.  As time went
by, it became once a month, and in some cases it took a couple of
months before I would watch another movie on the big screen. I think
I've actually seen more movies at home than in the theaters, which is
the opposite of how it was years ago.

To pull this off, I will actually go to the movies alone if I have to,
which I think I've only done three times in my life. I also should
watch at least a minimum of one movie a week on the big screen, and
maybe continue watching another one at home.

Last year alone produced a lot of great movies to watch and that kind
of motivated me to be more serious about my position as a fan of the
cinema. Here's hoping I pull this off.

  • I haven't checked e-mail for 10 days straight.  Can't really say
why that happened, but that's how it went down. So I finally checked my
e-mail and it came out to 123 unfiltered new messages (I didn't count
how many were filtered out).  Out of that 123 e-mails, 38 were
actual unsolicited mail, which isn't bad.  Then I have 61 actual
solicited mail from companies, music sites, mailing lists, that I
actually signed up for.  I also have 15 netflix related mail and
4 e-mail receipts of things I bought online. Finally out of all that, 5
were actual personal e-mails from friends & family. hhmm, maybe I
    shouldn't procrastinate on checking e-mail again, 'cuz that's a lot I
    had to go through.

Well the hotel reservations for the San Diego Comic-con
opened up this week.  I was actually awake early the morning it
opened up, but I didn't make a move for reserving a room until the next
day.  Boy was that a stupid idea. Out of all the hotels within a
half a mile radius from the Convention Center, NONE were available by
the time I got on.  There was only one hotel a mile away that had
a room to reserve, while the rest were at least over a mile and a half
away from it.  So obviously I opted for that one hotel a mile away
from the convention, which is sad considering that last year I was
lucky to get a hotel a half a mile away.  I'll check on
availability until the end of May, as I might get lucky again by
finding a closer hotel.  If that happens, I'll just cancel my
current reservation before they charge me.

I saw the figure skating competition on TV
recently, and while I don't really follow it, I always end up enjoying
watching it when I get a chance.  I just couldn't believe that Michelle Kwan is still competing!  I remember her from 8 years ago, and she's still going on strong.  Impressive.

I also recently saw the Clint Eastwood / Hilary Swank / Morgan Freeman movie "Million Dollar Baby."
Wow, what a great movie that was.  I was sucked into the lives of
the characters that by the end, it got really emotional for me at what
transpired.  The movie had a couple of flaws that I noticed, but
man was that still one of the best movies I've seen for 2004.  You
can bet this will be nominated for best picture of the year.

  • Here's the question of the day... Does age really matter when you're looking for that special someone?

I believe it's safe to assume that if you are 21, any legal age is
acceptable to go out with.  But add just five years to that and
it's a whole different story.  Because if you are 26, do you
really feel comfortable dating an 18 year old?  Howabout if you
are 30, would you date someone who is 10 years younger than you?

I usually say that age is just a number and it comes down to the
compatibility of the couple.  But sometimes age affects that
compatibility.  One side of the couple could have grown their
personality in a whole different decade than the other one, and that
has to affect their interests.  Now if the difference of interests
doesn't matter, and the couple are still compatible just on the basis
that they get along really well, then it comes down again to the age
    question.

Based on work or school, single people in their late 20's to early 30's
are probably meeting younger people straight from high school or still
in college.  Being single at that age, it would awfully be
tempting to disregard the notion of age and go with whoever is
available. That's almost an easy excuse to dating a younger person, but
it's still always up in the air if it would work out at all in the long
    run.

My rule? 4 - 6 years apart is acceptable for me.  There's going to
have to be some major exception for me to go beyond that rule.

  • oh yeah, the new season of 24 is
here! I recently went through the a marathon for the premiere, which is
4 episodes long (roughly 3 hours 20 minutes without commercials).
I'm glad to say that the show still kicks major ass!

I'm really liking the direction that the story is going, and it looks
like the writers made some wise decisions in some of those plot
developments.  There were just some moments in the show that just
made me smile at how awesome it was. Ofcourse there are still some
moments that made me think "oh why oh why did that happen?"  So
far though, it looks like I'll be
liking this season better than the previous one.

But there are some negatives already.  Clearly and foremost is the
new cast for CTU (counter-terrorist unit). oohh, I hate them,
especially the new boss.  It's almost like the writers purposely
made them a bunch of idiots or something, but that can't possibly be it
can it?  They obviously are trying to make us like them a little,
since they seem to force some character development to them.
Writers, hear me out, I do not care for the new CTU!  At least
bring back the uber hottie that is Kim!

At least we still have a bad ass, always the best at what he does, Jack
Bauer.  I swear, Kiefer Sutherland deserves the recognition he
received for his work on this show, because his character makes it good
    TV to watch.

I forgive FOX for delaying 24 until the mid-season mark, because it
brought us a four episode season premiere, and non-stop new episodes
for the next 20 weeks with no break.  This is going to be fun.
