Month: February 2005

  • This should be called the day of competition...

Me and my friends went to play Tennis, as a rematch to last year, in
which my team won (although the other team would argue that).
Since my army friend is back on vacation, we can do that much awaited
rematch to settle the score.  To give them credit, the other team
won, fair and square.  Afterwards, they wanted to go for a few
more sets to break the tie.  Well,
to my team's credit, WE won.

But that's not the most memorable thing that happened on that court for
me.  In one of the earlier sets, I accidentally stepped the wrong
way in trying to hit the ball, and I ended up twisting my left foot a
bit.  I was able to still stand, walk and run with it (although
with a bit of pain), so I thought nothing much of it. Well, about two
hours after that happened to me, I lunge for the tennis ball, and my
left foot finally gave way! I stumbled but couldn't keep my balance,
ended up falling to the net, a little bit of a clothesline to my neck,
and ending with me down on the ground.  But those who know me
know, I'm stubborn about medical things for my body, so I continued
playing on, which as I mentioned my team won, mostly thanks to my
partner. I'm definitely feeling the after effects of the fall though,
because my left foot is stiff, my back left calf has a bruise, my left
knee is also stiff, both my arms have bruises from trying to stop my
fall, my larynx area is sore, and my back simply aches from all
that...... But I'm sure I'll get better, since I believe in natural
    healing.

Later on, we continued our competition with Halo 2 and Outlaw Golf
    2.  Sad to say, my team lost on both games.  On Halo 2, me
and my friends were just no match to their insane sword slashing and
their flanking manuevers.  On Outlaw Golf 2, my team lost by one
stroke, which may have been averted if it wasn't for an error I made
very early in the game. All in all, fun stuff, which I hope to get a
rematch to later on in the week.

After everybody was gone, I ended up going online with Street Fighter
Anniversary Collection.  What was suppose to be a half hour
session, became a three hour streak.  Oh man, it's easy for me to
    get addicted to online fighting.
I went several matches on Hyper SFII and I remembered how much Guile
was a top tier character that takes a lot of a strategy to get
through.  I gotta brush up on that again, especially for my
non-fire ball characters. All the gamers I played all had good
attitudes (no droppers so far there), and I encountered almost no lag
on Hyper SFII. Then I went on Third Strike and was HUMBLED at how much
I haven't changed from being just an average fighter in this.  My
win to lose ratio is like a 1 to 3. I can't for the life of me improve
anymore than I already am. But I did do better on Hyper SFII in winning
    compared to SF3S.

and while I'm talking about competition, here's a drinking game that
people can play while watching the Oscars. Whenever a category comes
up, everybody quickly makes a guess on who will win.  Those who
guesses wrong, takes a shot of alcohol.  Being that it's a three
hour show with lots of different things that will happen, you can take
shots when "somebody thanks God," "somebody goes over their allowed
    time to speak," etc...

  • Well, the first day of my Nine days vacation went really well. I didn't
oversleep to waste the day away which is good.  I also got to
spend time with friends and my girlfriend.

What's funny was that we contacted one of our friends that we were
going to pick him up and go out to eat.  We told him through
Instant Messaging, so we know he is at home.  At the time we were
going to pick him up, we called him up to tell him we were on our way,
but he didn't answer either his cellphone or homephone.  We
decided to just go to his home to pick him up, but when we got there he
didn't answer the door.  We said screw it and went on our way. By
the time we got back to one of my friend's place, we noticed that he is
still online, AND that he was home. Apparently, he was sleeping or
    something..... figures

I recently got Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
for the xbox.  Since it's an online game, I decided to go and play
somebody.  Since I didn't have that much time to play really, I
only challenged one guy. He was a guy from Texas and he seemed really
nice, unlike most online gamers who are just a bunch of flamers.
Since you actually talk and listen to people through the xbox
communicator, we got to chat while playing.  I forgot how much fun
it is playing an online fighting game, especially since I gave up half
a year ago on Capcom Vs SNK 2.
Since SFAC actually contains a mode where you get to play "old skool"
Street Fighter characters, it was a nice nostalgic feeling from the
early '90s.  Plus, the game is still as competitive as ever.
If anybody reads this and wants to play me on xbox live, my gamertag is
    : patrick005

Later that night we ended up doing Karaoke, where we butcher some
songs, then we played some games of Halo 2, and then ended up playing
some Street Fighter.  All in all, a good day, which I hope is an
indication as to how my vacation is going to go.

  • If you haven't heard, Paris Hilton's T-Mobile sidekick cellphone was hacked,
and all it's information (address book, camera phone pics, text
messages, notes) were posted on the internet.  I didn't really
care so much about this, until I realized that there must have been
some celebrities in that address book, that I might be interested to
know about.  Heck, I could have given some of them a call, before
they change their numbers from the inevitable avalanche of calls (which
I would have been one of them). Sure enough, there are some celebrities
that I wouldn't mind giving a call to... like.... Ashley Olsen, Vin
Diesel, Eminem, Shannon Elizabeth, Anna Kournikova, Christina Aguilera,
Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, and Ashlee Simpson, to name a few.
oh well, sucks for them ey?

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I've been noticing a trend lately to diss the upcoming Oscar awards
I always thought that this awards show is generally popular to most,
but there are people who say that it's for lack of a better word,
gay.  Chris Rock has been known to share that opinion, and he's the host for it! Well, I'm personally excited for it, but maybe it's because I'm a movie fan first and foremost.

What's this I heared about Blink182 breaking up?!
They are one of my favorite bands, and it's a shame if that's really
the case.  The press release may say it's just an "indifinite
hiatus" between albums, and Travis Barker himself has said that there's still a future for the band, but it still doesn't reassure me that they haven't broken up.  Only time will tell I guess.

Being that I work graveyards, I usually rely on the live eastcoast broadcast of the Howard Stern show
from 3AM - 6AM PST.  This week though, he is on vacation and they
are playing "the best of Stern" instead.  Personally, I'm not a
fan of listening to his best of, because I'm more entertained by his
commenting on more current events.  When I'm hearing something
that happened a decade ago, it kinda loses it's effect a bit. So all
this week I've been looking for substitutes to listen to, and I end up
switching between CDs, FM music, and AM talk / news radio.  It's
just not the same really.  Now, I know how things are going to be
when Howard Stern is off the air.  I need to get that Satellite radio at least by the fall.

  • I've had a couple of incidents lately of me getting ripped off my change in money.

One time was when I was putting dimes in the vending machine.  I
put in 10 cents, 20 cents, 30 cents, then I noticed that the machine
still says 20 cents. Being that I think I have a mild case of
alzheimers some times, I thought I just counted wrong.  So I put
another dime in, but it still said 20 cents! So I press the change
return button, and I got only 20 cents back.  Bastard machine!

Another time was when I went to Vons to buy a stick of butter.  It
cost me $2.19 so I handed the girl at the register a $5 bill and then told
her that I'm going to give her at least 20 more cents of change.  So their change
dispenser brings out the one penny of change, she gives me the receipt,
says thank you, and takes off to the next register.  I must have
had a stupid look, because I could have sworn that I still have $3.00
coming my way.  I waved for her attention and told her that I gave
her a $5 bill.  She looks at the receipt, starts punching numbers
on the register, and starts taking money out of it.  I noticed
that she was getting money from the coin section, and I thought maybe
she was giving me $3 worth of quarters.  But then she pulls out
two $1 bills.  Gives me the change, says thank you, and goes off
again.  I walk away thinking that there's still something wrong, and
that's when I found out that she gave me $2.81 this time. So basically
I'm still short $0.17 of change, but decided to just leave it alone.

Later on, I come across another vending machine, and started putting
quarter's in it.  The machine for some reason refused to take my
quarters and it kept dispensing it out. But instead of the two quarters
I put in, I picked up three quarters instead.  So I thought my
luck has changed a bit.  I put a quarter in the machine, and sure
enough the machine took it, but did not register it.  Thinking
about the earlier incident, I decided to press the button and get the
    quarter back.  No such luck.

It's almost like a sign from God or something....

    What Is Your Love Number?

    Your Love Number is
        1

    You
tend to be a stubborn lover, holding your ground in every argument. You
take your time falling in love. You aren't the type to lose
perspective. You are loyal (to a fault), and you require the same
loyalty in your sweetheart. At your best, you are a wise and inspiring
    partner - who sticks around.

  • I remember a time when I used to really love the rain.  The rain
gives off a nice moody romantic adventurous feeling in me.  But
nowadays, I'm not a big fan of the rain. I think I'm okay with the rain
if I'm indoors, but a lot of outdoor stuff sucks when it's raining.

I've got three main reasons right now....
    1) I work primarily out in the open, so it's not so fun when it's raining on you at work
    2) Driving on the streets in hard rain conditions is not very safe with idiot drivers out there
    3) My dog can't go outside to the yard because it's all flooded.

SoCal has been pretty wacky in the rainy weather later.  In fact,
it's been said that since the beginning of the year, we are getting
three - five times more inches of rain compared to Seattle.  As of
today, this rain season is the fifth heaviest out of California's
history, with sights to take number one.

In theory, there's even been talks that because of the volcanos
erupting, earthquakes, and tsunami's, the earth's climate structure is
changing.  For all we know, it might even start snowing in Los
    Angeles sometime soon!

  • I went to see Constantine
and I enjoyed it.  This is primarily due to the fact that I like
stories about redemption / heaven / hell / apocalypse / occult and
stuff, which this movie has.  The thing about the movie is that
people have to get over the fact that this is based on a comic book
(there's no flying super heroes here), and that Keanu Reeves is playing
John Constantine.  For those of you who don't know, Constantine is
suppose to be a blonde british guy, which this movie obviously goes off
track there.  A lot of comic book purists seem to have blinders
going in this movie, and are easy to attack on it's faults because of
the changes it's made from the books.  But that's just the thing
though.  Since this is a movie, the first and foremost rule is
that you have to judge the movie on how good it is AS a movie.
After that fact, then you can complain about how well the adaption
turned out.  This movie isn't bad, but it isn't incredibly
spectacular either.  It is however a good blend of fantasy,
horror, and action, mixed in one movie.  Constantine is definitely
worth checking out, and I would give it a "B."

p.s. For those who hasn't watched it yet, there is a small sequence after the end credits of the movie.
    ----------------

I also ended up watching Harold & Kumar Goes to White Castle
again, but this time on DVD. This is seriously a movie that I believe
will go down as a future cult classic, because of it's random wackiness
and all.  It's just an enjoyable movie to watch if you like the
kind of humor that this has.  Just remember to throw away some
logic when watching the movie or it just won't work. Definitely worth
checking out, and worthy of a "B" grade.

  • So my friend from the military is finally back for a month leave from
his U.S. duty in Korea.  The funny thing happened right when he
got off the plane, he cannot find his ride.  He ended up calling
me to pick him up, and even I couldn't find him at first!  It
turns out that his mom was looking for him the whole time but was not
successful. Oh well, he got back, so that's good.

By the next day, we were going to go see the movie Constantine
in the afternoon, but by the time I woke up, it was 5 PM!  I must
have sleep walked to wake up both of my alarms or something, because I
sure as hell don't remember doing that.  I work graveyard, and I
must have been more tired than I thought. So I wasted an afternoon of
my weekend which I get really annoyed of doing.  It's funny too,
because at work, someone told me to "have a good weekend. Hope it
doesn't fly by too fast."  Yeah, that must have been the jinx.

Deciding for dinner that day was a chore in itself, as me and my
friends couldn't quickly decide on that. One suggestion gets shot by
another, with one of them being the Macaroni Grill
restaurant which I did not want to go to (because, how can a place
called the Macaroni Grill NOT have anything to do with
macaroni?!!).  We ended up deciding on Korean BBQ, but then I
realized that it's Lent for Catholics and I can't eat meat (chicken,
pork, beef, etc...).  So we went to this Chinese restaurant and
ordered some sea food dishes. Really good stuff.  Afterwards, we
went to Starbucks and then played Trivial Pursuit 90s edition the rest
of the night (which my team won!).

...and that's it for now! It's good to have you back Terry.
