Month: April 2005

  • For the past year (or so) my girlfriend's house has been home to a
mouse. For the most part the mouse never really caused any major
problem, except the occasional nibbling of the snacks on the table. It
did get to the point though that we really needed to get rid of it. We
went ahead and put a mouse trap in a corner of the house. But that
mouse pretty much easily avoids the trap.

After months of no success we decided to get those sticky mouse trap
pads. After three days of no success I get a call at around 7:30am and
hear "eeekkkk, the mouse, the mouse is in the trap, and it's still
twitching!" Since my girlfriend didn't want to do anything with the
mouse, I told her to just cover it with one of the boxes in her house,
and that I'll come over later to take care of the rest.

So I went to check on it, and sure enough the mouse is very much stuck
on the sticky trap.  All four paws were right on it, and he was
even next to the rice cakes that we left to lure him in. He was in fact
still alive, and may actually have been nibbling on the rice cake while
he is stuck.  I completely covered up the mouse in the container
and threw it all in the trashcan.  It's trash pickup day too, so
    what timing ey?

Well, we finally got rid of the mouse. Hopefully there aren't more.

Your Life Path Number Is 1
        1
    Your
Life Path is characterized by individualist desires, independence, and
the need for personal attainment. The purpose to be fulfilled on this
Life Path is that of becoming
independent. This is a two part learning process; first, you must learn
to stand on your own two feet and learn not to depend on others. After
you are indeed free and independent, you must learn to be a leader.

Many of our generals, corporate leaders, and political leaders are men
and women having the Life Path number 1. You always have the potential
for greatness as a leader, and you may fail as a follower. Many 1's
spend most of their lives shaking off their dependent side. When this
happens, there is little time left for enjoying the rewards to be
gained through independence. You may have to overcome an environment in
which it is very easy to be dependent -  and difficult to be
    independent.

You have an abundance or creative inspiration - and possess the
enthusiasm and drive to accomplish a great deal. Your drive and
potential for action comes directly from the enormous depth of strength
you have. This includes both the physical and inner varieties of
    strength. With
this strength comes utter determination and the capability to lead. As
a natural leader you have a flair for taking charge of any situation.

Highly original, you may have talents as an inventor or innovator of
some sort. In any work that you choose, your independent attitude can
show through. You have very strong personal needs and desires, and you
feel it is always necessary to follow your own convictions. You are
ambitious, and either understand or must learn the need for aggressive
action to promote yourself. Although you may hide the fact for social reasons, you are highly
self-centered and demand to have your way in most circumstances.

If you are not fully developed, you may express the negative side of
your number. That means your demeanor may appear very dependent rather
than independent. If this is the case, you are likely to be very
dissatisfied with your circumstances and long for self-sufficiency. On
the strong side of this negative curve, the 1 energy can become too
self-serving, selfish and egotistical. Over-confidence and impatience
are the weak side of your Life Path.

  • Here in the Los Angeles / Orange County area of California, there
really isn't that much variety in FM radio stations.  You got the
many spanish stations, one relevant talk radio station, one top forty
rock station, one independent rock station, a couple of top forty pop
stations, a couple of top forty hip hop / rap stations, a lot of
contemporary & oldie stations, and one classic rock station.
As you can see, there isn't much variety really, unless you are just a
big fan of the "popular" stuff or you like easy listening. If you are a fan of rock and/or metal,
    you are mostly screwed.

On that note, there used to be two classic rock stations before
recently. Obviously it was really unecessary to have two of
those.  So one of them stayed (95.5) and the other was taken over
(93.1 Arrow). The first reaction to that was "oh, another rock station
fell off the face of the earth."  But this was actually a blessing
in disguise.  What took over was this radio station called JACK FM,
and their motto is "playing what we want!"  Now, many radio
stations have claimed such a thing before, but never really
delivers.  This time it's different, because after about two weeks
of listening to this station, they really do play what they want.
I've listened to songs from the '60s all the way to the 2000s.
You've got the beatles playing one song, and the following song is by
Stone Temple Pilots.  You've got a variety that goes from Rush, ABBA, the Counting Crows, Jet, Carpenters, Depeche Mode, Blue Oyster Cult, the Rolling Stones, Oingo Boingo, Bob Dylan, Men at Work, to Lifehouse. Hows that for variety? Sure, they don't play
anything really heavy, but what they do have is still a pretty good
selection. They also so far only have ONE five minute commercial in an
hour, but I guess that might change when they get more popular.

For eclectic music fans, I would truly suggest listening to this
station. I know my radio has been stuck on that dial quite often.

  • Wimbledon was a very
pleasant surprise for me. What I thought to be a shallow chick flick
type of film became a very simple yet nicely made film.  Sure it's
story isn't exactly original, but the romantic plot mixed with the
sports film formula worked really well. The trailers may have put Kirsten Dunst more in the limelight of the movie, but it's actually Paul Bettany's
character that's the one you care the most for. I mean, who doesn't
like a movie that revolves around the underdog that becomes the sports
hero? The tennis scenes were also actually really good and gave a very
believable feel to the game.  The visual effects that follows
the tennis ball around was also pretty cool. All in all, definitely a
feel good movie that does a great job at what it does.  My
recommendation as a date movie here, and it gets a nice solid "B" in my
    book.

    ----------------

    The Woodsman proved
to be a very quiet somber film that is also able to be quite powerful.
The subject matter at hand is very much taboo and it would have just
crumbled on film if done by a lesser group of film makers. Luckily the
people behind this film did the right thing in getting this movie
    made.  Kevin Bacon
did one of his best acting works here and played his role in just the
right tone, considering that his character isn't exactly somebody that
most actors would like to play. I also liked the subtle undertone
background stories among the main characters of the film, and adds more
insight into the underbelly of the things that happen to regular people.
Unlike Wimbledon above, The Woodsman is definitely NOT a date movie,
but it definitely also gets a solid "B."

  • I know I've mentioned this once before, but my easy nature to get
infatuated with pretty girls just hit me hard the other night.  If
you remember from a previous post of mine, there is this girl that I
occasionally encounter at work  (The one that reminds me of Namie
    Amuro
    ).
We've ran into each other several times already, always approximately
around 4AM - 5:30AM, that we now know each other's name.

Well, the past two weeks I haven't see her at all, and have started
wondering if I'll ever see her again.  One night at about 11:50PM,
I was walking through the parking lot to get on a work vehicle, when I
see this Asian girl walking nearby.  My first thought was "she
looks awfully like..." sure enough, it really was her.  For
whatever reason, I just froze.  Literally, I did not move and was
stuck staring at her.  Not only that, but I'm only about twenty
feet away from her, and I'm out in the open that there's no possible
way that she wouldn't notice me if she looked in my direction. I was
screaming in my head "what the hell are you doing? Move and say
something!" After what felt like forever (maybe 10 seconds), she looks my way and greets me hello, which luckily
"unfroze" me, getting me to move and talk again. Actually, I started
acting all casual, as if I wasn't standing there looking like an idiot.
Either way, I was able to get
out a small conversation with her and we went on our seperate ways. As
it usually the case, she walks away from me and I once again get to
    admire the
    view. *sigh*

WOW, that has never really happened to me since I was maybe in middle
school or high school. It was like I was meeting some celebrity and
didn't know how to react.  I suppose, the fact that she reminds me of a celebrity probably attributed to that.  Talk about feeling
    embarassed.

  • This week, I thought I'd revisit all my Ten Foot Pole albums. I have four of their albums and am only missing one full length album, not including their collaborative effort with Satanic Surfers.
Ten Foot Pole actually has a bit of history and goes all the way back
to 1983 as an indie band, before they got a record deal in 1993 when
    they officially took that name.

Their first full length album as TenFootPole is called Rev,
which is considered one of the best melodic punk albums around
(ironically, that's the one I don't have). After that album, their
singer Scott Radinsky was kicked out of the band, because of his day
job as a Major League Baseball pitcher taking up a good chunk of the band's time (Scott later then formed the band Pulley).
TFP's songwriter Dennis Jagard takes over as singer, and people
complained that his voice is too "nasally" and more "alternative rock"
than punk. I actually like his style of singing and makes TFP sound
different in a good way than most typical punk bands.

TenFootPole is a melodic punk band, that's more similar to a Bad Religion or Pennywise, than a Blink182 or Sum41.
Their subject matters usually involve politics, social commentaries,
tragic stories, and the standard relationship songs.  These are
the typical same themes that goes along through all their albums.
Their sound doesn't change very much between each album either, with
only slight differences in them. But they do have a great sound that
makes them one of the best melodic punk bands around, and is definitely
    one of my favorites.

Out of the four albums I own of theirs (unleashed, insider, bad mother trucker, subliminable messages) I like Insider
the best. It could primarily be more because of sentimental value, since
that's their first album that I picked up.  I did play it quite
often throughout 1999, and it still stands the test of time 'till
today. The other three albums are also quite good, although I'd like to
point out that Bad Mother Trucker dubiously has this one song that really sounds bad to my ears ("Sarah Jones" - it has a good message though).

  • There was a recent study
revealing that Japan watches the most hours of television with 5 hours
a day.  The U.S.A. follows Japan with an average of 4 hours 46
mins a day. While that bit of trivia is nice and all, I want to talk
about the extreme opposite of it.  In other words, I want to talk
about people who don't watch TV!

All my watching TV life, I get a little perturbed when people proclaim how much they DON'T watch TV.  Or as Lisa May from KROQ
explained, when it's like you're talking to a friend about the tv
series "Friends" and a non-watching TV person comes up and goes
"Friends...hhmm...that's a TV show right?" Don't you just want to punch
them in the face?! You may not watch TV, but how could you avoid
    knowing what "Friends" is?!

Some people have a holier than thou attitude because they don't watch
the proclaimed "idiot-box" that is the Television. Some would say that
they "haven't watched TV for five years..." What do they want, a
cookie?  Some would say that "there's nothing good on TV
anyways."  With ALL the different types and variety of programs on
TV, the only way there isn't anything good on it is because they don't
have any significant interest in ANYTHING!!

Then on the other side of the fence you have those people who watch TV,
but they "only watch the news, CNN, cspan, etc..." ooohhh, you're such
an intellectual aren't you, do you want a medal?  Just watching
news stations can only get a person so far in increasing his knowledge
of the world.  It's like a nerd who has a 4.0 GPA in school but
    can't function well socially.

I'm not saying for people to watch hours and hours of TV, but you can't
deny that there aren't any things positive about it.  You just
have to actually watch the good shows that appeals to you and don't
over indulge yourself.  Moderation is key afterall. Stop looking
down at the TV and give it some respect damnit.

    Your Inner European is Italian!
    Passionate and colorful.
You show the world what culture really is.

  • okay, we all know that gas prices have been pretty high recently.
Ironically enough, supposedly the USA still has one of the lowest
prices in gas.  Other countries are paying at $5/gl in some cases!
Still, I want my gas price at least 50 - 75 cents cheaper, because all
those cents do add up, and I'm selfish about that.

On that note, recently I was talking to somebody and cars came into the subject.  He said that he is planning to buy a Ford F-150 truck,
and I quickly snapped back with a "when gas prices are so high?!!!" The
answer I got was, "but it's been selling so well recently and I'm also getting the
one that has back seats for additional passengers."  HOW is that
an exceptable answer?  I just end up thinking that if I was
wealthy rich and had money to throw around, then would I have the same
logic? I don't think so. I would probably still buy a nice sedan or
something of that nature.  If I wanted to splurge on a car, I
would probably get a sports car.

I've never understood the fascination with trucks and Sports Utility
Vehicles here in California.  The majority of these people who own
these types of cars, don't even use them for it's original
purpose.  They use them as casual vehicles to drive around in. All
I can guess is that they are buying into the hype and getting sucked
into the fad of owning these vehicles. I can understand people actually
buying them for their intended purpose, or those who want an
    uber-powerful vehicle.  I personally think it's awfully
shallow of those people who buy them just for "style" and for the
status quo, but I guess that reflect's their personalities.
