  • So I just spent my birthday at the comic-con, or to be more specific;
"Hall-H" and "the masquerade show." I was at Hall-H for the panels from
9:15AM - 7:25PM! No breaks, no leaving the room, I didn't even set foot in the dealer's room, nothing like that. My
butt was definitely tired from seating the majority of the time. Hall-H
had a ton of great panels set up, which is the reason why I was pretty
much stuck in there. Luckily I was able to find a seat near the front,
and were surrounded by some really nice people that I got along with.

First up for Hall-H, Bryan Singer came by for the Superman Returns
panel, and showed us a comic-con only montage reel of the movie. It
freakin blew me away.  I've been very skeptical as to how this
Superman movie will turn out, but based on what I saw, it's going to be
excellent. Brandon Routh IS a young Christoper Reeves.

Aeon Flux had their panel next, and it showed a lot of action sequences
that had a lot of gymnastics in it. It looks like it has potential to
be really good, but I still have reservations, even though they had
scenes in the movie that was VERY fateful to some scenes from the
animated series. Charlize Theron was there to promote the film, and
    she's so incredibly gorgeous.

Kevin Smith was there for another Q&A panel, and it was absolutely
hysterical! His panels are always the best and if I was able to film
the whole thing, I would be really happy.  I was able to get some
footage from the panel, but I missed recording a really really good
comment about his reactions about the Passion of the Christ, when some
Jesus freak was heckling him for "bad mouthing" Jesus.

"Slither" was a new up and coming horror movie that was being promoted.
They showed a trailer for it, and boy, it looks really messed up in a
    demented way.  Prepare to be grossed out. Also, Nathan Fillion;
who is one of the stars of Firefly / Serenity, is also in this movie
and he is just full of crazy antics and humor when he was there.
He really livened up the panel some more.

"Serenity" also had a panel to promote their movie, and along with
creator / writer Joss Whedon, he brought with him eight of the nine
main stars of the show.  It was also an entertaining panel, being
really spontaneous and all, plus Nathan Fillion carried over his
zaniness humor from Slither to this panel as well. On a side note,
there were people in the audience who I overheard were really wondering
WHY this cast is so loved by the fans in that panel.  If they
watched the show, maybe they'll understand, so don't criticize
    something you don't know!

Underworld : Evolution had a panel, and showed a comic-con only trailer
to us, but it still looked like another "style over substance" action
film.  Kate Beckinsale was there though, and she's quite the
hottie.  The director is her husband too, so I wonder how he felt
when a lot of the guys in the audience kept commenting on how hot she
    was.

"The Fog" remake also had a promotional panel, and they even brought
it's female star Maggie Grace, who is a beautiful woman known for her
character in the TV series Lost. Tom Welling of Smallville fame also
stars in this, but after showing the trailer for it, it still looks
like it'll be your standard scary film.

They showed an unfinished trailer of Ghost Rider, which also looked
like your standard action film. The CG for the character wasn't
finished yet though, so they couldn't show us anything like that,
although they showed the poster that has the image that closely
resembles what he will look like.  Eva Mendes was there to promote
    the movie.

The "Stealth" panel brought some surprises by having Jamie Fox and
Jessica Biel show up to promote the film.  Stealth still looks
    bllaahh though.

At the King Kong panel, they showed the trailer for the film, AND they
showed about 3 mins of unfinished footage of the T-Rex fight.  I
was never excited about the remake, but damn, it looked really really
good. Adrien Brody, Naomi Watts, and Jack Black was there to promote
the film.  Very entertaining panel, with Adrien Brody providing
some humor, and Jack Black being... Jack Black. Oh, and Jack Black
actually did a "king kong" song too.

After that was the Tenacious D performance! It was freakin awesome,
with them playing new songs from their upcoming movie / album, several
of their current hit songs, played the "saxaflute," did a hilarious
"nothing but lip synching" song, some subliminal drumming, and even did
covers of  Flash Gordon and Pinball Wizard.  It was hella
cool, and I actually would not have been there if it wasn't for the
fact that I didn't have to stand in line for the Masquerade show (all
    thanks to the photo pass).

That was the end of Hall-H for me, and I went straight to the photo
    section of the
masquerade show.  This is the first year that I got a pass to the
press area for the masquerade contestants.  The only problem there
    is
that while I have the best possibilities for really good pictures, I
don't get to see the show itself.  Ofcourse the problem will be
    the
other way around if I do things otherwise. So I was at the masquerade
show from about 7:30PM - 11:55PM! Care to do the math there? But
through all that, I was able to see a lot of really really good
costumes.  I got to see my personal comic-con celebrity that is
    Lisa
again (damn, she's still oh so pretty). Also once again, we were
    all graced
with the most popular cosplayer of comic-con 2005, the
Princess Leia golden bikini slave outfit!

Anyways, once it was all over I
went straight back to my last night at the hotel, and here I am
blogging. I can't believe I only have one more day at the Comic-Con left!
