  • You know, me and the computer don't seem to be getting along with
each other the past day or two.  Firstly, my nice expensive video
card in my laptop doesn't seem to be working, so browsing and scrolling
through the internet has been a real big PAIN. It makes it hard for me
to drag and drop window, and scrolling down web pages takes forever due
to a refreshing rate problem caused by the lack of a usable graphics
card. Secondly, the internet connection has gone crazy and there are
literally hours and hours of times when I can't get online.  When
I do go online it'll be for about thirty minutes tops, and the cable
company can't help us either than to send a technician to check out the
actual cable line, five days from now. In these day and age, in a life
that's almost always connected and reliable to the internet via a fully
working computer, not having those options is like losing a limb for me. My fault I guess for getting too attached. =(

  • Me and my close friends came across some old High School friends of
ours.  To say the least, it led to a lot of nostalgia about old
friends and how time passed us by. There were a lot of "so how is...?"
"Is he still with...?" "Are you still at...?" Then the subject of our ten year high school reunion came up, and the question of "are you going to attend" was brought out.

    I don't think I'm going.  In a way, it's because the nature of a
reunion is very much more ingulfed in how better off you are now, than
you were then.  I know that people don't necessarily go to these
things to brag about their accomplishments, but it kinda ends up
becoming that way. I personally have made some accomplishments in my
eyes in what has happened with me, but they aren't necessarily
something like saying "I discovered the cure to..."  Yeah, I
understand I'm being a bit unrealistic and that many of the people are
probably thinking the same thing, but I'd honestly rather not deal with
    it.

When the day comes, who knows, I might reconsider my opinion.

  • Future xbox 360 owners, you should have heard the news by now.

    - xbox 360 has two priced packages ($399.99 & $299.99)
    - xbox 360 peripherals prices
    - feedback about Hard Drive and double pricing backlash
    - specification sheet for console packages

Everything that comes with the premium package were all items that I
was planning to get anyways, so it really is quite a deal for me. At
this rate, getting the $399.99 "elite" package, plus two more
controllers ($99.98), three battery packs ($35.97), and three games
    ($149.97), will come up to $685.91 + tax = $742.50. Yowza, that is a
    lot of money.

If I went by my original estimates based on the rumored prices prior to
the recent announcement, everything I said I want above would have come
up to $645.07 with tax. So it really is just about $100 difference from
the rumors.  I suppose that isn't too bad, as things could have
    been worse.

So best advice to all of you... Bite that $100 bill and get the Premium
package if you are planning to own an xbox 360. Unless you plan to buy
it as a gift for someone, in which case just get the "core unit" and
let the person pay for the rest. ^_^

    You Are 50% Weird

Normal enough to know that you're weird...
But too damn weird to do anything about it!

  • Being a fan of rock music, I've always been somewhat pessimistic about
how unpopular the genre is compared to pop, hip-hop, and rap.  But
the past couple of years, I've noticed an increase in support for rock
music.  To a point where the rock sub-genre of metal music has
also shown some increase in support by the public.  Thinking about
this recently, I thought the best way to see how accepted rock really
is to the mainstream audience is to refer to what's in the top ten of MTV's Total Request Live.

First off, I'd like to mention that I don't watch TRL.  The last
time I even bothered to watch the show was probably about five years
ago. The reason I don't watch it is because it's very much a vapid
program. It's just a popularity contest that doesn't really consider
the actual craft of music and song.  But ofcourse what better source to answer my question on how accepted rock is.

Now looking at the results from last week's top ten
(week ending Aug 12), it shows that only four rock themed bands are in
the running against six pop / rap / hip-hop artists.  But if you
look at the top five spots, you've got three rock themed bands
there!  Not only that but "My Chemical Romance" is at the top spot, and that's not just rock, it's hard rock, emo, and a little bit of metal.  "Green Day"
is also in the second slot, and that's a punk rock band.  I'm just
trying to imagine pre-teens voting for bands like those! I mean,
seriously? Ofcourse they DID have Hilary Duff and Rihanna right next to
those two, so somethings haven't really changed.

  • Going into Wedding Crashers,
I was constantly told that this was a very funny and absolutely
hilarious movie.  Being the skeptic that I am, I thought that's
too high a compliment to live up to.  I was right. It's a funny
movie sure, but it's a funny movie in the romantic comedy
vein. It's not hilarious all the way through, because the mushy
romantic stuff gets in the way at times. In fact the whole fourth act
was all about the romance part with the laughter not being as common as
the first three acts. The Wedding Crashers is in fact a great
    ROMANTIC-comedy
though, even if there are some common cliches that comes with the
genre. I like the genre myself, especially when it's done well, and
this movie meets that standard. So guys, don't hype this movie up too
    much as being completely
absolutely hilarious, because that's being much much too generous. I
know some people that went in the movie believing that hype, and came
out disappointed because of it. Good movie though, I recommend it just
for Vince Vaugn's great performance, and the rest of the cast. As for Rachel McAdams and Isla
    Fisher
    ....hotness! "B-"

    Water's Edge feels
like one of those made for cable movies, but is produced well enough
for a film noir flick. But as it usually goes with the film noir genre,
it's all about the mysterious past, the shady suspicious characters,
and the climactic conclusions that pits everybody and everything
together.  Yeah, it's the stubborn hardly changing standard for
the genre, and sometimes it works real well, while sometimes it
don't.  This movie works a little bit above average than others,
and the actors do a splendid job making the film work better than it
probably should. The characters do questionable "why did you do that?"
moments, but redeems them somehow by some subtle explanations. The plot
is interesting enough to keep you watching although the conclusion is
only moderately satisfying by it's simplicity. "C+"

  • The Kevin & Bean show
from the Los Angeles radio station KROQ 106.7 did one of their "party
machines" to say farewell to their sports commentator "Money," who is
leaving to work for the Los Angeles Lakers. It isn't often this
happens, but they decided to have this event in Orange County,
    California.  More specifically, Hooters
of Anaheim! I happen to work three miles away from there, so I was most
definitely going to go since it's open to the public. The party's from
    5:30am - 10:00am, and since I work graves; I'm off at 6am. Perfect.
I'll just be staying up a little later after work thas all.

I got there by about 6:05am, and there was already a short line outside
since Hooters was already filled to capacity at that point. I was only
the tenth person away from the door in about a line of twenty people,
and we just had to wait for people to leave to get in. Not a big deal,
unlike me just getting off work, I'm sure there are many people in
there who need to leave for work. After about fifteen minutes of
waiting, I still wasn't able to get in, but looking over my shoulders,
the line of twenty people is now a line of over a hundred people!

By 6:25am, I was able to get in, found a table to sit at, and ordered
myself a $1.67 beer; which is the special for the morning (you know
106.7 = $1.67). Later on, I would order a couple more glasses of beers
(not just the special), and a plate of onion rings. I also chose quite
the table to sit at as well, since apparently the hooters waitresses
passes by it almost everytime.  Not only that, but since it's so
crowded, they always happen to accidentally brush up against me, even
when I try and move out of the way for them. *blush* Speaking of which,
I noticed that besides the female KROQ staff and the hooters' girls,
the audience was unsurprisingly primarily male, with maybe 10 percent female
(some were hot though). Not only that, but Asians were definitely
underrepresented in the crowd. But then, this IS a KROQ crowd afterall.

So the party pretty much consisted of us drinking, eating, playing
games for prizes, taking pictures, while the crew do their live
broadcast from a corner of the room. It was soo noisy in the room
though, that it was kinda hard to hear the broadcast.  You had to
go to the restroom if you wanted to hear the broadcast clearer. So
apparently, the first hundred people that came for the party received a
limited edition t-shirt for the event, and the rest were going to be
given out as prizes.  I myself got a t-shirt for drinking a glass
of pickle juice! Luckily, I like pickles, so it wasn't bad at all and I
chugged down the whole glass non-stop.

I stayed until about 8am, when I decided that I've done all the
drinking & eating that I wanted to do. I realized that I'll be
missing several more contests and other things since there's still two
hours more to the party, but I'd had my fun and thought that I'd at
least open up a spot for some person standing in line outside (it was
like more than 200 people outside when I left).

So Money, good luck in your new job!

p.s. I didn't bring my digital camera to the party, but I did use my
camera phone. Despite the lack in quality due to the poorly lighted
room, here are some pics anyways....
