Like a lot of you working people out there, you work in a department
among departments of your company. For the most part you don't always
work with people from other departments, but you encounter them
probably more often than you expect. Well, one pet peeve of mine is
when people from another department thinks they are better than the people of another
department, and it just infuriates me when that happens to me and *my*
people. Recently somebody from another department had the nerve to tell
me how to do my job, as if I was some kind of servant. I responded
dryly suggesting that person doesn't know what they are talking about.
Then the person continues on criticizing and judging me, as if they
literally wanted me to get me pissed off. Well, I told that person off,
practically scolding the attitude thrown at me. You know what their
response was? "oohh don't be angry, I'm just joking with you." I was
incredulous at the way I was being treated. A joke? Only an idiot will
pull a "joke" like that. Obviously the person wanted to just save face
from being pointed out at how wrong they were in the first place. The
nerve of some people.

Not much to post today, either than I've been busy with my new xbox360.
I haven't spent this much time on a video game console in a long time,
and it was kinda nostalgic in a way. But oddly enough, the majority of the time isn't
on gaming. I've been spending most of my time either customizing
my console settings and online downloading content through my xbox live membership. The xbox360 has this thing called the "live marketplace"
which allows you to download trailers for games / movies, demos for
games, "themes" to change the look of the main menu, "gamer pictures"
to give yourself a personalized image, and casual arcade games too
(like bejewelled, zuma, guantlet, and geometry wars). I did play some
games though, namely several of those arcade games, and game
demos for NBA Live 2006 and Kameo (which I think I'll be picking up in
the future). At this moment, I'm currently downloading a 950meg
demo of Need For Speed Most Wanted, which should take a while on my
wireless connection.
So far, what's my verdict on the xbox360? Well, it definitely gets a thumbs up for me. As for those overheating problems
that some people have reported getting? I haven't had a problem yet
(knocks on wood), and I've had my console turned on for almost 9 hours
at one point, due to my customizations and downloadings. So consider me
a happy consumer.
A couple of months ago, me and my friend pre-ordered the xbox360 from
a gamestop store. About a week before the release launch of the console (Nov
22), we get a call saying that they won't be able to accomodate us a
unit because of the console shortage. We didn't think it was that big a
deal and were willing to patiently wait. Out of curiosity, I called
gamestop to inquire where I stand on the pre-order list. It turns
out that I'm literally first in line on the list for the second
shipment. Not only that, but there are four people from the first shipment list who haven't
picked up their pre-order yet, and if they don't do so by Nov 25,
they'll be able to accomodate me instead. That day rolls around and I
get a call saying that out of those four people, ONE of them still have
not pick up their pre-order. Ofcourse, that means I get to have it.
I tell my friend this story and how I now have an xbox360. He in turn
tells me that according to a second hand phone message told to him around Nov
23rd, HE supposedly got a call regarding his pre-order. He tried calling
back then to confirm the message, but never got a hold of a live person
to ask. I joked about how maybe it was him that was suppose to be "one
of the four" the gamestop employee told me about, so I told him to give
them a call and just... find out. It turns out that it really was him!
So the xbox360 sitting in my room right now, was apparently suppose to
go to my friend. Funny ain't it?
But admist the shortage problems, people who are without an xbox360 at
this point needs to consider this fact : almost all game system
launches have had problems (some really serious). Usually about
four to six months into the system's life is when the problems are
remedied, and the newer units released afterwards are more
"glitch-free." So not getting a launch unit isn't entirely a bad thing,
and might save yourselves some unwanted headaches. Truth be told, there
is an internet connectivity issue that is happening with me right now (something to do with MTU).
That doesn't help, because I want to download the latest system update
patch (yeah, video game systems are very much like Personal Computers
now). Until I fix this problem, I'm worried about the durability of my
xbox360.

update : It looks like my problem with the internet connectivity is a
router issue and not an xbox360 problem. It's fixed now, so
everything is all groovy.

yay, it's Thanksgiving again! BTW, that's SARCASM. I feel like
I'm in the minority, but I'm honestly not a huge fan of the
holiday. I'm a fan of the holiday double pay, but I'm hardly as
excited about it as say a Christmas or a New Years. People all
around me seems to be in the holiday spirit though, so good for them I
guess. One thing that bothers me about the holiday is that people act
like it's a burden more than a blessing. What's even sadder is that
negativity in Thanksgiving is now PART of the tradition for the
Holiday. Thanksgiving doesn't even really have it's own songs, it has
to borrow them from Christmas. Bah, if there was a Thanksgiving version
of Christmas' Scrooge, then I suppose I'm it.

The next generation video game console wars has begun with Microsoft's
xbox360 hitting the market. It's exciting times for gamers, but there
is one thing I dread.... geeks, nerds, jerks, and wannabees arguing on
what is better. What is better in comparing consoles (xbox360 vs
PS3), comparing game exclusives (Halo 3 vs Metal Gear Solid 4), and
simply boasting on who is "smarter" in their game knowledge. I swear
people, quit arguing and just play the games.
