Month: December 2005

  • I went to Disneyland with my whole family (mom, dad, brothers, in-laws,
nieces, etc..) recently, and that's something I haven't done since
probably more than a decade ago. Truth be told, this happened because
my Dad's company picnic is in Disneyland, so we all went as a family.
Me and my girlfriend was mostly there for them, the all you can eat
buffet, and a short time in the park.  The park itself was
extremely busy, to the point that they had to close the main entrance
for a couple of hours. Me and my girlfriend didn't even bother getting
on any of the rides and opted to just do a little bit of shopping
there.  We also did an impromptu short tour of Walt Disney's
former living area that is located in New Orlean's square, and it was
because of a "friend of a friend" kinda deal. While my whole family
stayed up until the fireworks extravanganza, me and my girl only stayed
    for about five hours.

  • So how far are you all in your Christmas shopping? Me, I'm half way
there. I know what to buy the rest that I'm still missing, I just need
    to go get them.

While I'm on the subject of Christmas, there is a negative thing that
comes with the season. Bad tv episodes.  This is the time when a
lot of shows dedicate a "very special Christmas" episode that is
usually contrived, sappy, and simply idiotic in many cases.  I
just recently watched a Smallville "Lex-mas" and it was bad bad bad bad
bad. Horrible writing all around. TV writers, listen up. You don't have
to write an overly Christmas story when it comes to your shows.
Just write a good episode that happens to fall on the holiday. Don't
let the season dictate how the story goes. That rule simple enough?

  • It's become an annual tradition between me and my girlfriend (actually
90% hers) that we get our dog a picture with Santa Claus. Every single
year, my dog doesn't want to get near the big red dude, and she sure
tries her hardest to keep away from him. She doesn't seem particularly
hostile to jolly old nick, she just doesn't want to do anything with
him. Ofcourse that's the main reason why I'm not completely into this
particular tradition, but it's humorous to a point. It's humorous
because we make fools of ourselves trying to get our dog to pose with
the bearded one, yet alone sit right next to him. So what we do is that
my girlfriend has to be in the picture, usually in between our dog and
the costumed dude (or dudette). After several attempts, and embarassed
gestures to allow other more willing pets to go ahead of us, we always
end up getting a decent picture at least. Maybe next year it'll go a
    lot smooter. yeah, maybe.

  • So I had to get a little bit of overtime just now.  Normally I'll
be leaving work at about 5:45AM, but this time around it was about
6:35AM.  Because of that extra 50 minutes, I had to experience
what millions of working commuters go through every morning. That's
right, Traffic. Luckily it wasn't exactly peak hour for traffic just
yet, so it wasn't too bad.  It just almost doubled my commute time
getting home though, so that's saying something.

oh, one positive thing about getting that little bit of overtime was
that I got to see my model acquaintance again.  I haven't seen her
for quite awhile now since they moved her start time to 6AM, so it was
a nice boost in keeping me awake when she showed up.

    alright, time to sleep.

  • My girlfriend invited me to go with her to a social party / dinner on a
3 hour boat tour at Long Beach, CA. It was some kind of "client
appreciation" thing related to her work, but I was game to be on my
good behavior to represent her company.

First off, for whatever reason, I always get lost when trying to get to
a destination in Long Beach. I dunno, it's just the way the city roads
are laid out, with their pier exits, bridges, over passes, and what
not. The directions given to us seem sound and made sense so I just
went with that.  Nope, still got a little lost, there was one
major fallacy in the directions that GOT me lost.  My sense of
directions helped though, because I was able to find the place just
based on instincts alone (didn't have to look at the map, booyah!).

So when we got there, we met up with some of the people that my
girlfriend has only talked to through the phone at work.  In a
way, that's the reason why she was invited, to put a face to the
voices. The boat itself holds about 60 people, but there were less
people on board.  It's probably due to some people not being able
to make the prompt 8PM departure time. It's a boat tour, so you will
get left behind if you don't make it on time.

Now if you've read my past blog posts, you know I'm able to socialize
but I'm also anti-social at the same time. So for the first hour, it
was pretty much my girlfriend keeping me company, along with the open
    bar, the
appetizers, and the main courses.  I suppose it should be pointed
out that we were among a crowd of people that were primarily at least
    15 - 30 years older
than us.  Because of that age difference, it was at first was hard
to find a common interest besides talking about our jobs and this boat
ride. But later on, I found at least a couple of older men who I got
really conversing with.  It was a very eclectic conversation
involving talking about dogs, culture, movies, and finally the topic
that lasted until the end of the cruise, anime. That's right, the last
topic that I could possibly have imagined to come up in THIS boat trip,
ani-freakin-me.  I'm having an honest to God conversation about
Japanese animation with people almost twice my age. Incredible.

So we had a great time. It was an open bar, and my five drinks proves
that (never felt buzzed though).  Free food, so we got several
helpings to really fill us up. It's funny, but we were on a near three
hour boat trip tour around the harbor and we didn't really bother
    checking out the view.

  • you know what's really been buggin me lately? Static electricity! For
some reason whenever I get out of my car, I produce static electricity.
Ofcourse I have to touch my car when getting out, so SHOCK!!! Not only
with my car, but I've gotten shocks from door handles, mail boxes,
etc... aarrgghhh.  I'm not sure exactly what's causing it
either.  It's not like I wear the same clothes every single time,
so it's not really that. The only common thing is my car's seats that's
producing the static electricity, and that's something I can't easily
remedy, short of changing them all together. *sigh* it's got to the
point where I'm paranoid about touching anything metallic now.
