  • Tomorrow will be the 78th Annual Academy Awards, so here are my picks on who will win. These aren't exactly my personal choices, as I haven't seen several of the films nominated (like Brokeback Mountain).  I'm basing my guesses though, on the knowledge that the Academy votes more on emotion than on logic. This list wll only cover the main awards that I'll be looking forward to, so some categories will be omited (like "Sound Mixing" for example).

    - Who I think will win -

    Best Picture - Brokeback Mountain
    Actor - Philip Seymour Hoffman
    Supporting Actor - George Clooney
    Actress - Reese Witherspoon
    Supporting Actress - Michelle Williams
Animated Feature - Wallace & Gromit in the curse of the were-rabbit
Art Direction - Memoirs of a Geisha
    Cinematography - Brokeback Mountain
Costume Design - Memoirs of a Geisha
    Directing - Brokeback Mountain
Documentary - March of the Penguins
    Film Editing - Crash
Makeup - Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
    Music (score) - Brokeback Mountain
Music (song) - "In the Deep" from Crash
    Visual Effects - King Kong
    Adapted Screenplay - Brokeback Mountain
    Original Screenplay - Crash

There were some really tough choices up there. I can easily see Matt Dillon and Rachel Weisz pull a fast one on the supporting acting categories. Pride & Prejudice might win best art direction, as there are a lot of Jane Austen fans out there. I also prefer The New World getting best cinematography over Brokeback Mountain. Murderball or Enron might upset the March of the Penguins in the documentary category. Costume design could go either way (Pride & Prejudice perhaps). Same goes to directing, adapted screenplay, and original screenplay, which are honestly the hardest categories of the bunch to logically guess (my 2nd guesses would be Crash, Munich, and Good Night & Good Luck, respectively.

It's a given that Brokeback Mountain is going to win big though, with the best picture award being their highlight.
