I visited the Santa Anita Race Track for the very first time to attend the KROQ microbrew festival.
The first impression I got was "wow, I didn't think there's still this
many people who bet on the horses!" I honestly thought that betting on
the horse races was a dying breed, but I was very wrong because the
place was packed. Add the amount of people who were there just for the
microbrew festival and we've got a huge crowd in attendance.
I went to the park with my girlfriend, two of my friends, and also met
up with two other friends there. The microbrew festival itself was held
in an enclosed area in the infield area of the race track, and that
was also well packed. My girlfriend wasn't really used to wading
through a crowd that thick, and opted to stay out with three of my
other friends. So it was just me and one friend of mine who stayed to
drink.
There literally were several dozens brands of beer that was available for us,
but instead of going through it in a pattern, we based it randomly on
what line was convenient to us at that time. Some lines took as little as
five minutes to get to the beer, while others took as much as a half
hour. The reason some lines took longer than others was because there
were too many people who may have been drinking a little too much
holding up the line. I've even observed some random guys taking
pictures with random girls, just because the alcohol makes them brave
enough to do so. Speaking of girls, the KROQ listening female
audience came out in full force and damn where there some hotties!
At the end, me and my friend didn't really want my girlfriend and my
other friends to wait too long outside, so after about one hour and a
half in there, I got five beers in me (7oz each), while my friend
had three. I had a nice happy buzz for the rest of the day, while my
friends kept saying that I was really just drunk. Seriously though, I
wasn't. Maybe I would have, if I got three or more beers in me.
