movies I've seen recently...
The Descent (2005) B-The premise for The Descent is more or less standard fare for a horror film, bring a group of people (in this case, all attractive females) into a dangerous situation and then bring killer monsters into the mix. This movie has those sudden scares, those gory scenes (blood and guts), and the horror of being trapped in a seemingly unescapable cave filled with monsters that want to eat them (even if they are still alive). There are some logical flaws in the characters, the monster, and some of the decisions made, but I didn't think they took too much away from the enjoyment. There's also some good subtle character development among the main actresses (Natalie Mendoza and Shauna Macdonald), that helped bring weight to their predicament. Good fun.
Into The Blue (2005) C+Into The Blue is an action / adventure / thriller, but for most guys it's "the movie with Jessica Alba in a bikini." The movie oddly enough has her as second billing, because the main star of this is Paul Walker (so the women has something to look at too I guess). There's nothing really much to say about this movie, as it's not exactly a bad movie, but it's also not exactly a good movie either, it's just quite average. All the actors did a good job, and the plot chugged along well enough, it just wasn't anything that special. If there's one standout; and this is from a guy's perspective, it's probably the scenary and the camera work (especially when Jessica Alba and Ashley Scott are present). Insert smiley face here.
