Microsoft finally released Windows Vista, and I have to ask all PC users out there, do you care enough to get it? Because, I’m honestly very very content with Windows XP, and intend to keep using it for at least another four to five years. From what I can tell right now, there are only really a few advantages of even having Vista. There’s the new visual touches, the more streamlined way the included software works with each other, and the fact that a lot of the newer high profile PC games are going to demand the use of Vista. Either than those, am I missing anything that I can’t already do with Windows XP? The majority of us are still just using our computers for documents, the internet, and games like World Of Warcraft. You can do all that with what you have right now. So my advice to all of you thinking about upgrading, WAIT. YOU DON’T NEED IT.
Man, it’s been many years between the releases of the main Windows Operating Systems; not counting the Windows NT ones. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, and now Windows Vista? All these OS releases in the span of a little over a decade. Seems like overkill don’t you think?
As for you Mac users, be happy you have OS X.

Just for kicks, i’m posting this blog entry using the Nintendo Wii’s “opera” web browser. It uses a very functional on-screen qwerty keyboard, competitively as good as the xbox360′s, and ton’s better than the PS3′s. Ofcourse it’s still much slower than a real keyboard, but it’s doable.
I’m really enjoying having a Wii, and I spent HOURS just trying out the additional functions. There’s a weather channel, a news network, this web browser, an online store (download software and games), and ofcourse the “Mii.” I created 25 Miis, which are mostly humorous versions of some celebrities. I did download some games, Super Mario Bros from the NES, Gunstar Heroes from the Genesis, and Bonk’s Adventure from the TG-16. I miss some of these old games, and I’m glad that these next-gen consoles are giving us the options to re-live them again on the TV screen, as opposed to the emulated stuff on the PC.
Well this took awhile to type, so I’m going to stop right here, and rest my right arm from playing too much Wii Sports.
Despite the sold-out status that the Nintendo Wii is still experiencing in the stores, a friend of mine, has a friend, who is connected to Nintendo. “You want a Nintendo Wii?” “Sure, just give me $250 retail price amount, and I’ll get you one.” A few days later, my friend has a Wii that he was able to get for his kids. He’s had it for a couple of weeks now, but I only just recently visited to have a full play test with the console.
I started off with creating my “Mii,” which I tried to make it look somewhat like me. Being that I’m pretty OCD about things like this (see Fight Night), I held back going all out with how my Mii looks and proceeded with actually playing the system. The first game I wanted to try was “Wii Sports – Bowling.” Getting used to the Wii controllers motion sensitivity was a non-issue, and I pretty much just applied how I would bowl in real life to the game. I ended up playing Bowling for one hour straight, and even had some great head to head competition with my friend’s cousin. It was just sooo much fun, and just about a good home substitute to actual real life bowling. I tried the other Wii Sports, like Tennis, Boxing, and Golf (I never did try Baseball), but bowling is clearly hands on the best one of the bunch, with Golf being a good second. I also tried Rayman Raving Rabids, and that was also pretty fun. Two hours later, and I had an immediate urge to go out and get my own Nintendo Wii (and I didn’t even need to try out Zelda). In fact, I actually did go to the stores and tried to buy one right after I left my friend’s house, but unfortunately, it was still all sold out. I was on a “Wii high” I guess, and just needed to get one.
I originally had my concerns about causing damage with the Wii remote flying off hands and killing TV’s or computer monitors. After the play time I have though, you have to be an idiot for that to happen. You must have room around your “gaming area” though, so that you don’t hurt anybody with the arm swinging and all (I almost hit my friend’s head). The graphics may not be as great as the xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3,
but damn Nintendo for creating an incredibly fun gaming console in the
Nintendo Wii. Despite the fact that the 360 is already doing a good job in
my video gaming needs, I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up getting one sometime
this year.
I went to Best Buy just to “take a look” and see if they have some in stock. I go to the games section and I see a guy actually purchasing a Wii at the register there. I quickly asked the Best Buy employee if they had more in stock, and it turns out they had at least six left, out of the twelve units they received this same day. I immediately told them that I wanted one, and next thing I know it, a few more people show up behind me, waiting in line to get a Nintendo Wii as well. Needless to say, if I wasn’t there at that particular moment, I probably wouldn’t have been able to get one today. I bought Rayman Raving Rabids, WarioWare Smooth Moves, and Zelda : Twilight Princess, plus I have the free pack-in game with Wii Sports. Now all I need is an additional controller, but that’s sold out. Boo Yah!

Recently, the nominees for the Oscars; 79th Annual Academy awards, were announced. As is usually the case, a backlash about how “the Oscars lost touch with the people” is once again being heard. Last I checked, the Academy’s priorities are to nominate movies that DESERVE to be nominated, not just because it’s popular with the people. If they were to connect with the people’s wishes, then we would be seeing Pirates of the Caribbean 2 in the best picture nominees (that’s where the People’s choice awards comes in). There’s a difference between a quality movie and what is simply a popular movie folks. The five films nominated for best picture of the year are all good movies that “the people” should watch anyways. If they did, then maybe they’ll understand why the Academy nominated those movies. Ofcourse, the Academy awards isn’t perfect by any means; snubbing Sacha Baron Cohen and all, but the Oscars is still the premiere award show dedicated to the art of film making. As somebody who loves the movies, I look forward to this award show every year.
before I continue with my update on my newest dog, I thought I’d repeat the edit I did last week.
After a couple of days and different
opinions from other dog lovers, pet groomers, and the vet, I have to
say that the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter made a mistake in saying that
my new dog is a purebred Old English Sheepdog. In actually, he is in
fact a mix, that is most likely a soft-coated wheaton terrier mixed
with quite possibly an old english sheepdog. So there you go folks, I’m
just going to start saying that he is just an “Old English Sheepdog
Wheaton Terrier mix” (OESWT).
It’s just about one week since I got my new dog, and it’s quite the feeling having to re-train a new pet. I guess I got so used to my knowing what to expect from my Akita-Shepperd mix, that it can be pretty frustrating dealing with the unexpected in my Old English Sheepdog Wheaton Terrier mix. He isn’t completely house broken yet, he still has an oral fixation by chewing on things he shouldn’t chew, and he still has a habit to “paw” someone / somethings when he shouldn’t. My Akita-Shepperd however has also been acting like the big sister from
time to time by telling the OESWT some of the rules…. at least that’s
what it looks like to me.
For the most part the two dogs are getting along, but the problem with my Akita-Shepperd not necessarily willing to share food with the OESWT has caused some fights between them. Some were pretty violent. Unlike the first couple of days, my OESWT is now willing to fight back as opposed to just submit to my Akita-Shepperd. The OESWT has longer legs than my Akita-Shepperd, so he is twice as fast and is willing to use them to attack with a pounce. I don’t know if that’s necessarily a good thing though.
With the extra work and some issues, am I still happy I adopted a new dog? Yes I am. This is just some growing pains we have to live through, before things are in complete control again.
