I went to see "Meg & Dia" again at the Warped Tour Kick Off Party, which took place at "the Key Club" in Hollywood, CA. Prior to going to the concert however, there is a pre-show party that was organized by people from the Meg & Dia message board. Being that I'm a member myself, I decided to go attend it as well. I first went to pick up my friend who went with me to one of their concerts at the Glasshouse in Pomona, and I also brought some San Miguel Beer (A Filipino brand beer) for the pre-show event. Unfortunately, I was running behind schedule, and underestimated the traffic, ending up being almost an hour and a half late for the party.
There were a good amount of people who attended the party, and I'm happy to see several familiar faces from meeting them at previous concerts. I found out that the band actually came by to visit the party earlier too, which I unfortunately missed out on. Ah well. Although me and my friend didn't have much time left to completely enjoy the party, we did have some fun. One of the girls there probably had more fun than she probably should have, as she was already drunk and couldn't even stand up properly anymore. We were worried that the Key Club wouldn't let her in with her condition, and sure enough they didn't let her go in. They told her to wait two hours before entering, which coincidentally enough is right before Meg & Dia is performing, so that works out for her.
Me and my friend decided to wait awhile before going in the venue ourselves. We went to eat at this Italian sandwich place, and watch the Lakers basketball game. Roughly about a half hour before Meg & Dia was scheduled to perform, we entered the Key Club to the band "the Briggs." They are a punk band from Los Angeles, and they weren't bad at all (I even bought their latest CD at the merch table later). After their set ended, I noticed even more people I met before, this time from the concert at the El Rey, and hang out with them at the show.
Meg & Dia got on stage to set up their equipment while some stand up comedian was doing a routine. When the band was set to play, Meg seemed to have some technical difficulties which caused a little bit of a delay. Meg by the way looked way hot in the cute blouse she wearing. Yowza! Unlike the tour they did with Anberlin and Bayside, this time around there was a great amount of Meg & Dia fans in the crowd (not just the "boardies"). There were lots of guys shouting "we love you Dia!" or chants of "Meg! Meg! Meg! Meg!" This is one of the better experiences I had of seeing the band live, because the audience (being mostly fans) were all into the songs and music. Now THIS was a Meg & Dia concert. I also got to hear them play a cover of Blind Melon's "No Rain" as well as finally hearing "Lessons from New Jersey" (from their "Our Home Is Gone" album) live for once. To put it simply, their set rocked!
Afterwards, we went downstairs to the merchandise booth to by some chance see if the band would be there. Doubtful because damn was that area super small and crowded! Shannon was there however, so I got to say hi to her, and that's about it, because she was extra busy at the booth. While we were down there, we met YET another friend we met before, this time from the Pomona concert. She was the one who bought the extra ticket from my friend and drove all the way from San Diego. This was pretty neat, it's like all the Meg & Dia fans I've ever come across before just converged into this one night.
"K os" was playing next, and while they sounded good, we decided to just step outside from the crowd. We just hang out with the other fans who were also outside and just chatted it up with them. Dia was also there, but seemed busy talking business, so I never got a picture and only really had time to say "Hi." The rest of the band eventually all showed up together, but unfortunately it was primarily for a video interview. Afterwards, Meg and Dia had plans to go see the band "Saves The Day" who was playing this same night at the Hollywood House of Blues, some blocks away from the Key Club. Darn, so no hanging out with the girls this time, and I didn't get a chance to take a picture with the lovely Meg and Dia. They probably went there to show their support of that band, since they'll be touring with them in the next few months (no West Coast dates however). Carlo, John and Nick stuck around though. Chatted mostly with Carlo (as usual), but for the most part I was socializing more with the other fans. Truly, from the pre-show party all the way to the end of the night, this really was a Meg & Dia "fan" night and it was awesome.
