Movies I've Seen Recently...

Once (2007) AThe modern musical is what "Once" is, because it has sequences that involves people singing to further the plot, but the difference is that this movie does it naturally. This may be a simple story of a man played by Glen Hansard who is a singer songwriter with a broken heart, singing what he feels and thinks to anyone who would listen. Luckily one of those listeners is a woman played by Markéta Irglová who herself has a musical background with the piano, and also has a broken heart. Together they end up creating music together, and it's those moments that make this movie a wonderful experience. This is simply one of THE BEST films I've seen for 2007.
If you appreciate the art and soul of making music, song writing, and what music can mean to people, do
yourself a favor and watch this movie. I'm even going the extra step and buying
the soundtrack for Once, because I loved the songs in the movie that much.
The Hoax (2006) B+Based on actual events that happened in the '70s, Richard Gere plays Clifford Irving, a writer on a career low who decides to convince people that he is writing an autobiography of the mysterious powerful eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes. "The Hoax" surprisingly to me is pretty much a "caper flick." It really is because you see how he, his friend Dick Suskind who is wonderfully played by Alfred Molina, and his wife Edith Irving played by Marcia Gay Harden, carefully tries and lays out this plan to pull off this big stunt that will result in them getting over a million dollars, not to mention getting this book published. Richard Gere does a great job in his role as this guy who really is like a con-artist being so good at lying, and it's fun to watch how they pull off one of the greatest hoax in history.
