  • Recently, my home actually had a black out for almost two hours in the morning. The whole power was out, and when calling Southern California Edison, I was told that roughly about 1,000 homes were affected. A little while after the black out started, my alarm system started beeping; for obvious reasons. I get a call from the security company because their computer indicated that power was cut off from my security system. I told them that there is a power outage, they asked for my name, and that was that.

Here's the thing though, I'm normally asleep at the time the black out happened, and it just so happened that I was still awake at the time. Now what if I was asleep? In the first four hours of my sleep, it's really tough for me to be awakened by the phone. So what's the security company going to do? I asked my wife about that, and she said that her work place is actually listed as the next number they would call, to confirm that everything is alright. So what would my wife tell them, when she knows I'm suppose to be home sleeping, but there's something wrong with the security system. Should she just assume that something is wrong, if she doesn't get a hold of me through my cellphone? Am I just all of a sudden going to be woken up by police officers pounding on my door? Hopefully it'll never come to that scenario.

  • you mean if they even sent officers? my friend's system was compromised because he didn't have a motion sensor at the point of entry. so NO alarm went off O_O
