Recently I heard on the radio about a poll that was conducted by a newspaper among 10 - 15 years old. It asked them to list their top ten of what's most important in life. Their list might shock and or amuse you, but it's definitely food for thought. Take a look.

Now I don't know about you, but that order is all screwy. Parents, you better keep an eye on your kids and educate them. Please. If the kids of today are our future, then maybe I should be worried.

With the news over the weekend that Warner Bros is now completely exclusively backing Blu-ray as the HD video disc format of choice, the "war" has really tipped over to one side. Considering that WB is the biggest seller of home videos, this is a really big deal in seeing who will win the HD video disc format war. Good news right? Yeah, unless you have an HD-DVD player in your collection. This is one of the reasons I said to wait it out, before choosing a side in the next gen High Def video disc.
I said it before, HD-DVD = Betamax, and Blu-ray = VHS. History repeats
itself, with the winning format that's ALWAYS had the most support.
As soon as Universal + Paramount can go Blu-ray, then I'll be
considering getting Blu-ray movies. That's only if dedicated Blu-ray
players are in the $150-$200 range though. I'm honestly happy
upconverting standard def DVDs on my 1080i HDTV, and I don't see that
changing anytime soon, even after I've seen HD movies on Blu-ray with
the PS3. My families and most of my friends are still sticking with
DVDs as well (upconverted) with no blip on the radar for them to go HD
on video discs. Also with us trading DVDs with each other, there really
is no reason for me to go HD yet. My boycott continues...
Not sure if you guys have noticed, but a lot of the average consumers
out there actually believe that an upconverted DVD player actually
makes their Standard Definition DVDs into "real" HD. That kind of ignorance though will
help DVDs last a lot longer than you may think, short of the studios
completely dropping that format (possibly 2010 the earliest), or stores like Best Buy completely
stop selling SD-DVDs. Although I myself am backing upconverting
SD-DVDs for now, I at least know there IS a difference.
The future is Blu, but the present is still DVD.

Movies I've Seen Recently...
The TV Set (2007) B
"The TV Set" is quite a fascinating movie about the process a TV pilot has to go through, before it ever gets on the air. David Duchovny is great as the writer who wants to try and keep his personal vision of his TV show intact. However "the suits" have other ideas that are suppose to make his show "better." Sigourney Weaver is excellent as one of those "suits" who cares more about ratings than credibility. However you also have another suit wonderfully played by Ioan Gruffudd who is caught between satisfying the writer, his boss, and his family who clearly hates the Hollywood life. A story about integrity, selling out, and a social commentary on Hollywood and the people who work there, The TV set is quite an interesting good movie.
Paprika (2006) B+
Surely one of the wierdest, most bizarre, engagingly trippy anime movies I've ever seen. "Paprika" is a movie by reknowned anime director Satoshi Kon and is based on a novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui. The movie is a blend of mixing the dream world and reality, and it does it in such a visual flair that what you are seeing never is what it seems. This is also a mystery story about somebody taking advantage of this device that allows people to "share" another's dream, but this person is using it for nefarious reasons. Paprika is quite an experience, and recommended to both anime fans and non-anime fans.
Charlie Wilson's War (2007) B+
Based on true events, "Charlie Wilson's War" is a look at how a single person was able to change the course of history by helping to start the road to end the cold war in the 1980s. Tom Hanks in the title role once again proves why he is one of the best American actors around, but it's Philip Seymour Hoffman as the CIA guy who steals every scene that he is in. The story itself moves along at a good pace, the dialog is great, and showing us the political process at how Charlie Wilson pulls this off is quite fascinating.
Aliens Vs Predator : Requiem (2007) D-
To put it bluntly, "Aliens Vs Predator : Requiem" was a waste of my time at the movies (considering I saw it for free). There was no real terror, suspense, drama, action, horror, or excitement. The only thing worth the time is seing the aliens and the predator, and even so I would just recommend the original Predator movie or the first two Alien films over this piece of trash.
I was able to listen to 130 music albums that were released this past year, and makes 2007 a banner year for me in terms of the amount of new music I listened to (not to mention having a movie soundtrack be one of my favorites). That was also the year I seemed to really embrace the "softer" side of music, because the hard rock and metal genre has honestly been lacking lately. Coming up with 40 top albums of the year for me was pretty darn hard this time around, but I kept in mind the CDs that stayed in my player a lot, and the ones that I really fell in love with. Once again I have to say that this list caters to my personal taste and opinion, so I don't expect it to be the standard for everybody. Also keep in mind that there are still more CDs from 2007 that I still haven't heard yet, so I intend to update this list with a future edit to accomodate any additions / removals (marked with a *).

Out of the 48 eligible movies that I saw this past year, here are 25 picks for my choice of best movies that were released in 2007. Criteria simply follows the fact that the movie is technically good, that it was released to the public (no film festivals) in 2007, and that it's a favorite of mine to some degree. Ofcourse this list caters to my personal taste and opinion, so I don't expect this list to be the standard for everybody. Also keep in mind that there are notable movies from 2007 that I still haven't seen yet, so I intend to update this list with a future edit to accomodate any additions (marked with an *).
