  • Do you check e-mail a lot? Do you constantly use your cellphone's text messaging? Do you spend hours upon hours of time on an online game? If you answer yes to all that, you might have a mental disorder. There is currently some news on trying to get internet addiction to be classified as a mental disorder. According to an "American Journal Of Psychiatry" article written by Dr. Jerald J Block, internet addiction is a common compulsive-impulsive disorder. It's the constant need to be connected with somebody that seems to be the problem. Does it sound a little much, classifying extensive internet use as a mental disorder? But then there have been people who have actually died because of such a problem.

Kids and teens nowadays probably don't even remember a time when the internet wasn't as prevalent as it is today. It's just another part of life for them. Talking to friends through myspace or message boards. Text messaging somebody at a concert. Sending and receiving e-mail, more so than actually using mail through the post office. It's simply a luxury that can be so addicting. The gratification of being a little more important by socially connecting with people anonymously through the internet, probably feeds to the addiction.

Even if internet addiction isn't classified as a mental disorder anytime soon, I have to admit that it is a concern that we all need to keep at the back of our thoughts. The next time you find yourself "needing" to check e-mail, just think about the possibility of that being a step to you having a mental disorder.

  • Here's a situation you can think about...

A man takes his wife to a conference trip for his work. The wife only knows some of her husband's co-workers. It has to be mentioned that because this trip is work related, the wife isn't always going to be with him. The husband sets up a place for the wife to meet him afterwards, and in this case it's a local bar / restaurant. The wife shows up at the place and sees her husband having a drink at the bar. However, she also sees her husband happily talking to this pretty woman. She then sees him hug this woman before they part ways. When the wife asks her husband who she was, he says nonchalantly that it's one of his co-workers. The wife is annoyed and upset about what she saw, however the husband seems oblivious about that fact. Later on when finally confronted, the husband is confused at why his wife is acting all angry at him about the pretty woman. "She's just a co-worker, there's nothing going on." The wife doesn't think it's appropriate for her husband to be so friendly to that pretty co-worker of his anyways. She also asks him why he never mentioned this particular pretty co-worker of his to her in the first place. He says that she is being unreasonable, and she is saying that he acted out of line.

Now is one of them completely in the right and the other in the wrong, or is it not that simple and they both have some blame to the argument?

  • This past Saturday night (March 15) at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, was the last day of the Angels & Airwaves headlining tour, with Meg & Dia, the Color Fred, and Ace Enders and a Million Different People. This was also my last chance to get Meg & Dia's newest song in my video collection. To my surprise, unlike the last few days, I was able to bring my camera in the venue with no hassle. Being able to stand at a nice spot on the general admission floor of the venue, I was set to stay there throughout the whole night. Using my cellphone, I even sent a photo of my dog to be shown on the big screen, and I got to see him on it for a whole five seconds. Nice.

I was able to see all of Ace Enders And A Million Different People's set, and I think their music started to grow on me. There was even a surprise cameo by members of the Meg & Dia band and The Color Fred showing up for the last song of their set list. The Color Fred was up next and once again a stellar performance, that I ended up purchasing a copy of their album at the end of the show. Meg & Dia was up next, and I was dead set on recording their whole set list on my camera. Unfortunately towards the end of their first song; "Monster," I was told by security to stop using my camera! In fact he escorted me to their office to get my camera checked in. Coincidentally the claim ticket number I got was "187," which if you don't know is police code for "homicide." Yeah, the use of my camera and my chance to get their new song on video was definitely killed. I went back to see the rest of Meg & Dia's set, just missing one song. I enjoyed their performance and thought they did great as always, but I was completely bummed out with what happened to my camera. As soon as their set ended, I decided to once again not bother seeing Angels & Airwaves. I got my camera back, and just stayed at the lobby to hang out with some of my "MaD boardie" friends.

At the end of the show Dia, Nick, Carlo, Jon, showed up for some meet & greets as usual. It always impresses and amazes me that they remember me, and that really means a lot. At one point when I was talking to Jon, he asked me a question that proved tougher than I anticipated. "Which of our shows did you like the best?" was what he asked me. I decided to be honest and say that it was the Cal State Fullerton show that I enjoyed the most, out of the gigs I was able to attend (although I heard the San Diego one I missed was really something). The CSUF show felt more intimate to me with the band compared to the large venues that are the House Of Blues and the Wiltern. It was a little embarassing saying that though, considering Jon and also Nick weren't playing at that CSUF gig. I also elaborated to Jon on how the over all mood was kind of low, as one of the few Meg & Dia fans among a sea of Angels & Airwaves fans. It did not help that some of those AVA fans simply weren't respectful to Meg & Dia, which was a complete turn off to the whole experience. We didn't get to hang out with the band very long though, because the Wiltern security was trying to shuffle us out of the doors. I believed me and the boardies were told to leave at least four to five times before we finally left. hehe.

Rumor is that Meg & Dia will do a small headlining tour at the end of summer or the beginning of fall. Looking forward to it already.

  • This past night (Friday March 14) was the second concert of three that I'm attending to see Meg & Dia, with Angels & Airwaves as the headlining act. They returned to the House Of Blues Anaheim, and it was just a slightly different experience than Wednesday night.

With help from the people I know that worked there, I was still able to get some drinks on the house. This time around I ate enough to accomodate the alcohol and stayed pretty sober throughout the night. While I was getting my drink (black russian) and walked around the venue a bit, "Ace Enders and a Million Different People" were performing on stage. They weren't bad, and had some good songs. I did still get the VIP passes for the balcony area, but I decided to stay in the pit for "the Color Fred" and for "Meg & Dia." Both bands were really good as expected, especially considering that they are playing to a crowd that are mostly just there for the headlining act. The experience in the pit is of course different than being in the VIP area, and you do tend to "feel" the music more by being in there. The problem with being in the pit is that you have to make an effort to put up with the lack of space, and being so close with everybody around you. In between just enjoying the music, I enjoyed observing the reactions from the people who never heard of The Color Fred or Meg & Dia, although I'm still mix on whether they were mostly positive or negative reactions.

I did stay to watch Angels & Airwaves set this time around, and me and my friends had a nice primo spot at the VIP section. Close enough that I went ahead and used my camera phone to take photos, since I still wasn't able to bring my digital camera in. Great set from AVA and despite the fact I'm not a huge fan of lead singer Tom Delonge personally (can't forgive him for breaking up Blink182), I enjoyed their performance. I also appreciated the very "blink-esque" jokes that Tom did in between some songs as well.

At the end of the whole show, I said hi to Meg, Dia, and Jon who were meeting some fans. It started on Wednesday, but Dia once again asked me where my wife is. I have to tell her that my wife doesn't like going to concerts, being in huge crowds, and listening to loud live music much, so she lets me go by myself. I'm starting to think I'm a bad husband with Dia asking me why she isn't there. Maybe one day I'll be able to convince my wife to go with me.

Well, good memories, and I've got just one more day of this tour to catch.

  • This past day (Wednesday March 12) was pretty darn good. I drove to Cal State Fullerton specifically to see one of my favorite bands; "Meg & Dia," doing an acoustic performance for "To Write Love On Her Arms." It's been years since I've been on a college campus and wow I forgot how looking for parking can be such a chore. Not to mention, I felt old walking around among the college kids. The gig was scheduled to start at 11am, and even though I got there at around 10:45am, I did not park until closer to 11:15am. By the time I got there, "Josh Moore" was already doing his acoustic performance and he was pretty good as well.

First person I saw was Carlo, Meg & Dia's Pilipino lead guitarist, and as it always surprises me, he remembers me from all the time I've seen them. I also got a chance to talk to their manager, who I've always seen but never actually talked to. Mike K's a cool guy. Since the band did an acoustic show, it was just Meg, Dia, and Carlo on stage. They performed six songs and were great as usual. Afterwards we just hung out and chatted with each other. I even gave Meg & Dia a DVD copy of the movie "Once," and they were really greatful since they said that they also loved the film. Meg told me that she liked the copy of the graphic novel "Death the high cost of living," which I gave her the last time I saw them last year. Nick; their drummer, and I talked mostly about the game "Rock Band" and how he broke his game drums on that. John; their bassist, and I talked about how the tour was doing and their studio plans for their next album. Some of the "boardies" were also there, and when the band left, we all hung out for awhile. We went to eat at "Panera Bread" and then went to the mall to just shop around, played around at the Apple store, and later on I even went to "Yogurtland." After a few hours we went our seperate ways until Meg & Dia's next performance, the same day later, at the House Of Blues Anaheim, in Downtown Disney.

It was still about over an hour until the doors were going to open, so I walked around Downtown Disney for awhile. I even saw members of the band walking around as well, and it was a little weird at how since they aren't very popular yet, they could just go about like "regular people" and not worry about getting mobbed by fans. There were a couple of times a fan would approach them, but it was no big deal for them. Their band manager also informed me that if I can gather 15 "boardies" to the next show, he was going to play us the demo recording of one of their new songs. It's kind of a last minute notice, but like he said, he just "made it up on the spot right there."

For this particular House Of Blues, I actually am familiar with some of the staff, in particular one of the managers, and several of the bartenders. I was waiting for another friend of mine before I could go in, but the manager friend went and allowed a couple of the "boardies" to go in early. I even got some extra passes to the VIP lounge viewing area, which was pretty cool. Despite the fact that I was familiar with some of the staff, the House Of Blues has a very strict policy about bringing cameras in, so I wasn't able to take mine with me. They did give me an e-mail address to contact one of the publicity managers, to see if they can hook me up with a photo pass for the next House Of Blues Anaheim show that I'm going to.

My friend that I was waiting for was running late, and by the time I got in "The Color Fred" was already finishing their setlist. Meg & Dia was coming up next. Their performance was great as always and I finally got to hear one of their new songs live. However, I always questioned them being a good fit with "Angels & Airwaves" who was the headlining act. There actually were people heckling the Meg & Dia band, which was a complete turn off for me, that even though I like Angels & Airwaves' music, I decided that I wasn't going to watch them that night because of some of their fans. Me and my friend just went to hung out at the merch / bar area, to talk to people from the band, and the "boardies."

Alcohol, that was my personal theme for the rest of the night. Since I knew some of the bartenders, they were giving me some free drinks the moment I walked in. I was also getting a free drink from a "boardies" friend too. I was getting myself some drinks. Wow, was I sooo buzzed that night. Correction, I was at the first stages of being drunk. Usually I have a strong resistance to alcohol, but then my friend reminded me that I did not eat much that day at all (just bread). I'm a happy drunk though and I was still pretty coherent. I was offering drinks to the band, I got my boardie friend a drink, and I was still drinking. At some point in the night, I lost the shirt that I bought, and was looking around for it, until my friend found it near where I was originally standing at. We even found a CD copy of "The Color Fred" lying around, which I got to claim through rock paper scissors. Later on however, the real owner showed up, confirmed it was his (he got autographs inside it), and with no hassle from us he got it back. When the House Of Blues eventually closed shop, boardies, my friend, and I went our seperate way. I decided to sober up another hour or two by talking to the tram people at Disney, and once I was good, I got home safe and sound (kids, don't drink and drive).

Fun memories, but I do have a hangover right now as I'm typing this.......
