What I've been listening to lately...

My wife recently watched the slide show video that I created for our wedding, and she came up with the idea that maybe I should consider doing that as a side business. I suppose that's a strong possibility as it really isn't that hard for me to do, plus I have fun with it. Looking through some websites, I've seen the pricing for such a service go as little as $79 to as high as $600! Wow that's a huge price range. It's really simple stuff too, so spending more than a $100 for such a service seems a bit over kill. I guess if people are ignorant enough...
At work, one of my managers is going to be getting married soon, and the subject came up. Thinking back to what my wife suggested, I went ahead and pitched the idea that if they want some kind of video slideshow shown at their wedding, I can provide that service. My manager wasn't really thinking about doing one, but she told me that she'll consider it. So depending on what her final decision may be, I may actually get a chance to jump start this possible business endeavor.

argh, headache headache and eyes are hurting bad. I recently discovered this website http://www.onemanga.com which has a lot of scanned Japanese manga translated in english, and I've been reading quite a bunch of them through the computer. After a certain while, it just hurts to look at my computer screen, or keep my eyes open for that matter. It's probably because it has something to do with the contrast and brightness of the monitor clashing with the black and white plus the text fonts or something like that. Or maybe I just shouldn't read for hours at a time. But wow, I need to take a rest now.
The fight against the digital video era continues on. Recently, DirecTV has given me notification that they have placed a 24 hours time limit to how long I can keep a Pay Per View movie on my Digital Video Recorder. This was because the major movie studios have required that satellite and cable providers
alike may no longer allow their customers to view these recordings for
longer than 24 hours. Clearly they fear DVRs encroaching on DVD sales. Now, I personally don't bother with PPV movies, because I rely on Netflix for movie rentals, but I can see how this can be a little too oppressive for the viewer. XBOX Live Marketplace video rental service also has a 24 hours time limit, so I'm familiar with this strategy. I wish the studios would allow us to extend that time limit to maybe 52 hours instead, as I think that would be much more fair to the viewer than a one day viewing requirement.
While the PPV movies are getting the press from DirecTV, there's something else they haven't talked about much. PPV events. It looks like that may have been affected too, because my recently purchased UFC 83 pay per view says that it expires after 1 month when I first watched it. When I look at it now though, no expiration date. Did they change their minds, or did I just get a glimpse of things to come?

A co-worker of mine told me that she's noticed a lot of spiders where she lives. I told her that I myself have noticed a lot of spiders showing up more than usual at my house. Well she heard that it must be "spider season" already. "Spider season?" I never even knew such a thing existed. That would explain all the spiders I've seen. However I looked it up a little bit online and supposedly spider season happens in the fall / autumn time, and it's suppose to be spring right now. So what's going on? If you believe in the climate crisis like I do, you've heard that because of that, the weather has gone bonkers, which means the animal / insect kingdom are responding to that by acting a little bit different than normal. Maybe *that's* the reason spider season has moved up to the spring.
Stupid spiders.

This goes out to everybody that drives on the freeway...
If you are on the "fast lane" of the freeway, there's a couple of things you need to look out for.
Do you have about a 1/4 to 1/2 a mile distance away from the vehicle in front of you?
Are the cars to the right of your lane moving significantly faster than you?*
When you look at the rear view mirror, do you notice a long line of cars following behind you?
If you answered Yes to those questions, then for the love of all things good, either go faster or change lanes! Don't you realize that you are actually causing more traffic by not utilizing the empty spaces in front of you, thus causing the cars behind you to stack up and back up the freeway? I don't care if you are following the speed limit, because if you want to do that, then go use the slower lane!
If everybody was driving the speed limit, then nobody will be able to change lanes, because you can't squeeze in between cars that are going the same speed as you. It's only going to make it harder for people to change lanes and get out of the freeway, and in turn will actually cause more problems. Just think about this, if all the cars "in front of the line" are going the same speed, then they are essentially acting like a wall, causing the freeway to just get congested from the amount of cars that are piling up. The video "55: A Meditation on the Speed Limit" even demonstrates that.
General rule to live by folks.
Drive fast, stay left. Drive slow, stay right.
Be a non-competitive Driver.*
Leave a gap of space in front of you.*
Stick to one lane whenever possible.*
