I think I went over this topic before, but ever since the video game Rock Band has the option to get new songs through digital distribution, the subject of music elitists is once again in the air. The reason is because the company behind Rock Band; Harmonix, can only release so many songs per week. Usually it's about three new songs to download per week, and ofcourse not everyone is expected to automatically like the songs they chose either.
So now in the internet forums, you have people literally arguing about the songs that are released, and about songs they want to be released. It isn't enough that Harmonix is even bothering to release new songs to download every single week since the game has been released *cough*unlikeguitarhero3*cough* but people practically demand that they only be songs that cater to their musical taste. People online are such greedy bastards that it's all about "me, me, me" when it comes to the songs they want. Punk, Metal, Classic Rock, Pop Rock, etc... are all genres that have been released for the game, and you figure that the variety would satisfy most gamers. It should, but as it turns out, not so much.
People nowadays need to get off their high horse on what is suppose to be considered "good music," because there is a thing called "opinion" and "personal taste." If someone likes a band or a song that you personally don't like, it doesn't mean that someone has bad taste in music. Just because you only like one particular genre; like take metal for example, doesn't mean every other genre are bad. Variety is the spice of life people, and that also applies to music.

well...question: do YOU have to pay for these extra songs? if so, then yeah of course they'd be more demanding.
even if they weren't, the point of these games is to have fun. how fun can it be to play it often but be stuck with only a couple of songs that you'd enjoy? you'd get sick of it SO fast! when i play ddr, i stick with a handful of songs. the rest are too crazy for me. even if i wanted to play more i wouldn't because i'm bored already. that's the difference btwn games with songs and games that are just games.
i half agree with you on the music taste thing though. it's implied that if someone says that it sucks, it's not their taste. i had to learn this lesson the hard way--trying to get ppl to like what you like isn't always plausible. so even if you don't phrase it that way to express your dislike for something, just let it go when others say it differently.
Yes the DLC songs for Rock Band are paid stuff, and I don't expect everybody to buy all the songs they release. However, Harmonix has been really good at providing a good variety of songs for download, that it's foolish for people to demand that every single week's DLC cater only to them. One week is this genre, one week is this other genre, one week is this band, one week is this other band. There's bound to be something for everyone within the five months the game has already been out, so there's really no point with all the bitching. Are a lot of people's taste in music so specific that there's really not many songs that they can download? Because of the vareity of musical genres released, I was personally able to download 55 out of the 81 additional songs available to download.
Rock Band is the only music game out there that even provides new songs every single week, unlike Guitar Hero, DDR, etc... and people spending the majority of their time just complaining about an "optional" service are just greedy (the game already comes with the standard 55+ songs). PS2 and eventually Wii owners of Rock Band don't even get DLC, so xbox360 and PS3 owners should consider themselves privileged to even have downloadable songs. If they don't like the DLC songs, then don't download them and stop complaining. The last thing I want is Harmonix to stop providing this great service because of all the complaining.
