  • Once again I went to support Meg & Dia in the Sub City Take Action Tour, and this time it was at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA. Unlike the past Friday night, this time around I went specifically just for them. I skipped the official meet & greet portion before the show, and I skipped seeing the other bands like Anarbor, Every Avenue, Breathe Carolina, and Cute Is What We Aim For. I planned to show up exactly at the moment MaD was playing, but I unfortunatey was a little off because when I got there, they were already playing their cover of Blind Melon's "No Rain." However I did get to hear them perform my most favorite song of theirs; Masterpiece, capped off with a little bit of their cover for Sublime's "Santeria." It must be noted that unlike Friday's show, MaD was not the direct support this time, which was now given to Breathe Carolina. It's just as well though, because just like Hollywood, the crowd just was not as into Meg & Dia as I would have hoped. I'm telling ya, they need to tour more with bands that actually sound like them.

After their set was over was what I was really there for. I met up with the "boardies" that were there, and we pretty much just stayed around the merch room (plus bar) for the rest of the night. I did see/talk to the girls from the group "Millionaires" though, so that would be my (pseudo) celebrity encounter this time around. Now since it is St. Patrick's day (well the night before), my goal was to buy the band some alcohol. First person up was Carlo, and I ended up getting him a B-52; since I was already drinking one. Next up was Meg, who I got a can of Guinness. Then Jon and I ended up drinking two Irish Carbombs together. Nick and Dia refrained from drinking since they wanted to stay sober. Three out of five ain't bad. I myself had a total of five (or was it six) drinks, and in part it's because I knew the bartenders at this House of Blues, so I got at least three free drinks from them.

While all that drinking was going on, the usual stuff was happening, like chatting with the band, I even asked Meg and Carlo to choose between Gibson or Fender guitars (they chose Gibson). I also did embarrass Carlo a little bit at one point when he was joking about not knowing one of the boardies' name, and then I said "don't worry, Carlo does not even know my name." Carlo said he knew my name but called me by another name, which only proved my point. It was all straightened out at least. Like I said in my previous blog post experiences with the band, they know me by face only and not by name, because I honestly never told them my name. Well their manager Mike K should know my name, and I guess Carlo knows now too.

I also took some photos with my smart phone. Actually I did not take much photos this time around, but I did try to take another funny type picture with Meg and Dia (we were going for the stereotypical Asian picture pose). Unfortunately, my Blackberry Storm has this weird thing about actually taking the picture at the second flash, which really threw Dia off who thought the photo was taken at the first flash. Third time was a charm though.

It was good times all around, and it's kinda funny how I'm more and more just going to their shows just to hang out with the boardies and the band, more than I am really going for the whole concert. Speaking of which, Carlo said that they might be doing a pre-summer tour, Jon said he doesn't know if it'll happen, and Dia said that it's not happening. So who to believe ey? If Mike K was there, I'm sure he would have given me a straight answer. Oh well, until Warped Tour then.

  • Hmmm... I was going to comment that you like a certain look but I can't find that poster you used to keep in your room on the web.

oh well... next time we go drinking I'll give a toast to halo halo.  BTW, when will you be available to hang out?

  • @darren_macintyre -

I think I have an idea what poster you are referring to. The hint is that it is a certain J-Pop star. Don't have that poster up in my room anymore though.

We all really should hang out sometime. I'm available to do something on a Friday or Saturday, but just tell me when so I can see if I don't already have plans.

  • Fridays and Saturdays sound cool.  Work's just around the corner from your place these days so I can even stop by.  This Friday and Saturday's not available though.  I'll be pulling an all nighter at a cyberdefense competition at our alma mater.  We get to scare the little college kids with our 733t haX0R skillz.
