Having a facebook account can be very useful in keeping touch with your friends and families, but sometimes it can be a bit of an annoyance. People, tone it down a bit with all the apps on facebook. A lot of them I just do not care for. Some quizzes and polls or what not can be fun to do, but there's a lot of time wasters on there that I'd rather not deal with. I'm trying not to waste any time at all in the first place. So.... No, I do not care to find out what my "smurf name" is. No, I do not care to find out what Transformers I'm most like. No, I do not want to have a virtual toy. No, I do not want to have a virtual pet. No, I do not want to be part of a "pillow fight." No, I do not want to have a virtual drink or food. No, I do not care to be poked, or super poked. No, I especially do not care about joining your "mafia." I'll do some of the apps if it actually interests me, but a lot of them really don't. I hope I don't hurt your feelings if I ignored all the requests, because I have been going "ignore ignore ignore ignore ignore" a lot lately. So just tone it down a bit folks, or just stop it all together.

You're starting to get old. Remember the old idealism of freedom of expression and freedom of speech.
You were there during the 1st internet boom so you already learned how to solve this problem. It's the same solution as dealing with all the stupid websites with blinky lights and stupid widgets. Another problem during the 90s was the friend that liked to spam jokes or funny links (hehehe... I should talk) in the 90s. Just stop visiting them or put in mail filters. The only problem is there's the personal aspect of explaining to your friend why you've unfriended/unsubscribed them.
All facebook/myspace has done was lowered the bar needed to be on the web. Attrition will take care of the problem once everyone realises that you can unfriend/unsubscribe/stop visiting crappy social networking pages.
To tell you the truth, I've just avoided the whole thing as much as I can. The only social networking system I'm using is linkedin for professional contacts. But then again, in a professional network, people tend to tone it down since it affects their career (facebook/myspace has already affected a lot of potential and current careers but people just have gotten a clue yet)
