I know Twitter is currently the flavor of the moment, but I don't think I'll be using it. First off, I'm mostly a blogger by nature more than an instant update kind of guy. You can see that fact on my facebook account, where I don't change my status update as often as some people do. I don't see the point of twittering simple mundane things in my life, which is unfortunately the whole point of it. Do you really care if I type "currently writing up a blog about twitter" on my twitter account? "I'm currently eating a hamburger." "I'm doing my laundry." "I'm waiting in line for a movie." etc etc etc. Seriously, would you really care about knowing all those little things?
I believe Twitter caters more to the people who love text messaging their friends a lot on the cellphone, which I'm not that guy. It's like having a constant need to connect with people, which I'm pretty sure I don't really need. Saying all that, I admit that there are useful advantages to Twitter. It's however mostly coming from a very active person like a celebrity, or somebody who is witnessing a note worthy event at the moment (like being at a concert or experiencing a natural disaster).
Will Twitter just be a fad that will go away, where the main users will eventually just be people that are actually worth twitting about? I believe it's a strong possibility. There are people who already complain that they know and connect with people too much as it is, through blogs, facebook, instant messaging, and text messaging. I feel that this need to know every single detail about a person will eventually backfire. People will simply just stop caring.
