  • - When you are walking behind somebody, and that somebody looks like they are having a conversation, but there is no one else around, do you think that person is crazy, or do you assume they are on a blutooth device using their cellphone? Nowadays, the first extinct for me is to assume that person is on their blutooth. I had that reaction recently, and it reminded me that years ago the first thing to pop in my head was that "this person must be crazy." How times have changed.

    - You know what hasn't changed though? The fact that there are still people out there who still do not wash their hands after using a public restroom! Seriously now. C'mon people, it's just more sanitary to do that, and it's just common decency to the public. Don't people realize the "splatter effect" that those urinals or toilet bowl makes, that the naked eye does not see? You may not think you got any of that toilet water splashed on you, and you'd be wrong.

    - Now one other thing that has changed? Firefox. The best web browser out there has just been upgraded. Firefox 3.5 has now been released, and supports "open video." Websites are not going to need to rely on flash or quicktime to show video on a web browser, if they take advantage of this open video thing. Get Firefox 3.5 here... http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.5/releasenotes/

    - ...and another thing that hasn't changed. How awesome Bruce Lee is as a martial artist. I just saw bits and pieces of "Way of the Dragon" recently, and that man really was a pioneering legend of fighting. If you compare the action scenes to the mix martial arts of today, Bruce Lee demonstrated take downs, grappling, ground and pound, and of course his stand up game. This was the movie most famous for the fact that he fought Chuck Norris in it. You can watch that sequence here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtZNvK3fTlM

  • Movie I've seen recently...
normally I do more than one review, but I'll make an exception for this...

Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen (2009) C+

If there are three words to describe "Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen" it has to be SO MUCH DESTRUCTION. Admittedly, these are giant robots duking it out, so the destruction that follows from a battle should happen, but wow does director Michael Bay really know how to blow things up but good. On a somewhat similar matter, it still amazes me how violent the robots can be to each other, and how if those fight scenes were done by human actors, the movie would instantly be an NC-17 film. Breaking off an enemy's arm, and using that to beat him up? Wow. Keep in mind that the movie is two and a half hours long (IMAX version slightly longer), and I swear that after seeing the 1000th explosion, I couldn't help but say "this movie is actually still going." As a sequel, it doesn't have the unique initial charm of the first film, nor is it as funny as that, it's got plot holes, characters that defy logic, and the story is really just there to transition itself to a scene with a robot or more explosions. So much negativity. I probably hated it right? NOPE. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit (not as much as the first one though).

This is suppose to be a brainless fun action film, and this is what was delivered. The human actors from Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, to John Turturro did their parts as well as the script allowed. Ofcourse it's the robots we wanted to see, and while there seemed to be more emphasis on the Decepticons this time around, Optimus Prime and Bubblebee are still represented very well for the Autobots side. Optimus Prime in particular will always be my favorite, and that fight scene he had alone against numerous Decepticons was spectacular to experience, that it gave me chills watching that sequence. In the previous film, I did make a comment that when the robots are fighting each other, the meshing of metal against metal seemed "too messy" to keep track of what's going on. While this sequel has not completely solved that problem, those fight scenes do seem a little easier to follow this time around. Now my advice to anyone who has yet to see this film, is to go into Transformers : Revenge Of The Fallen, and see it like a roller coaster experience. There might not be much substance, but you should enjoy the ride.

  • Yesterday was the first day of the 2009 Van's Warped Tour at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA. Unlike the previous years, I actually went with a group of friends this time, as well as met up with more people at the show. Not much of a lone wolf this year. I just woke up to do this recap of yesterday, and I'm feeling kind of lazy, so I'm going to just repost my twitter/facebook updates of that day, and just add more information to those.

    1:56 PM - @ Warped Tour Pomona
Actually we got there at about 1:30PM, which was 45 minutes too late for me, since LIGHTS' set was on 12:45PM (maybe next time). My friend was on the guest list for Victory Records, so we had to get her free pass to get in (line was longer than we expected to get that). Correction, passES. They gave her two. Too bad her friends just bought tickets at the door. Could have saved some money. Ticket price at the door BTW is $40, versus my pre-order ticket which was only $20 (plus service fees). Speaking of which, my ticket is surprisingly pretty unique. It's a holographic badge of some sort (attached to my lanyard), and out of all the people who was at Warped Tour, there was only ONE other person I saw who had it. People assumed it was some VIP badge or something.

2:18 PM - Met Meg&Dia's sister Jade. Looks so much like Dia
After looking at the set times for the bands, I went over to the Meg & Dia booth to meet up with my friends. Walking towards it, I was thinking "oh hey, Dia's at the booth," but when I got closer it turned out to be her younger sister Jade. Looks pretty close to Dia, that a lot of people were making that mistake. My friend encouraged her to just go with it, and apparently she actually did some autographs under Dia's name. lol

3:58 PM - LoL been @ Warped Tour Pomona for over 2 hours and still haven't watched a single band yet. Black Tide in 45 mins though
I was suppose to go with some of my friends to see "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Saosin," but ended up just roaming the place. Played a little bit of Rock Band, as I had the chance to try out the special bass guitar that I've never used before for the game. I was told that I should visit the Trojan condoms booth, but ended up not doing that.

    4:30 PM - ... Hot weather + Warped Tour = a lot of girls in bikinis... :-/
I swear, some of the girls were even wearing string bikinis. Ouch. Hurts to look for a married man in his early 30s.

4:44 PM - Just said Hi to Meg, Dia, Nick, Carlo and Jon. Love this band so much
The band was doing autograph signings, and it always surprises me every time, but they still recognized me. I asked them that I heard that they were not doing a cover song after all this time around, and Dia told me "See, I told you they would ask about that." I had them sign the new "Hurley live sessions" EP that they were selling there. What's funny was that after we had our turn in line, we decided to go back at the end of the line again. Because you know, that's how we roll. While in line (again), I was listening to "Black Tide's" set, as the stage was close to where we were. My friend got Meg and Dia to sign one of his glasses, which was pretty unique. As for me, this time around I got the band to sign those cool Hurley cards (attached to a lanyard) that they were passing out, and that I made sure to take several. hehe. Afterwards, we did a "boardie" photo with the band, and they took off to do rehearsals for their set.

5:18 PM - Just saw "Black Tide." Good show, but they seem to be goofing off too much, as their sound doesn't really hold up to how they were on the CD.
Yeah, I was a little bit disappointed. It looked like they were drunk and were just having a good time, but although the instruments sounded good for the most part, the vocals were pretty bad. Most of the time the singer would want the crowd to sing the lines, because I dunno, maybe he was feeling lazy about singing. Still, a more or less good show. They did play their cover of Metallica's "Hit the lights" though, and that was pretty cool.

5:37 PM - watching "the White Tie Affair's" set. Pretty awesome. This band knows how to have fun.
I did want to see this band, and it was worth it. Very pop rock sound, and they were great to see live. From water guns to life vests, this band was putting on a great show. They even did a cover of a Lady GaGa song, at least that's what I thought they did. I'll double check on that later.

6:01 PM - Another fun band to watch, "Streetlight Manifesto." Pretty chill rocking the sax and trumpets.
This band had a lot of fans in the crowd, and that energy definitely carried over to how great they sounded like on stage. I found that while you can definitely dance along with their tunes, they also lend themselves to just relax and listen. It was pretty chill.

6:27 PM - In crowd like sardines in a can, watching a band (Senses Fail) that I'm not exactly a fan of. Waiting for Meg & Dia to play their set.
Wow did "Senses Fail" have a lot of fans. We weren't just shoulder to shoulder in the crowd, we were body to body. I was standing next to the rail of the Audio/Visual tent, and there were so many people that everybody was pressed against each other. As awkward as it was, there were three girls that were pressed up against me, and all one of them could say was "sorry." "It's okay" was the only answer I could give. Indeed. Poor Meg & Dia doing their sound check at the stage right next to Senses Fail, as it seemed difficult for them to get things done right while that band was playing it's metalcore music. Speaking of which, metalcore band seguewaying to a pop-rock band like Meg & Dia? Nope. Bad bad Warped Tour for setting it up that way.

6:52 PM - Woot! Meg & Dia already on their 2nd song. Black Wedding
Although they didn't do a cover this time around, I finally got to hear "Going Away" and "The Last Great Star in Hollywood" played on stage. They also improvised some of the intros to several of their songs, which always makes their live performance unique to the album. They did have several technical problems though, but like the champs they are, they pull through. For some reason, I thought that they were playing their songs slower than they normally do though. Very relaxed sound, which leads to this other problem...

7:18 PM - Warped Tour crowd was mostly lame when MaD played. Bleah. I feel like I want to just leave now
The band played a good set, but everybody was much more subdued than I would hoped for. Sure, the crowd and their set at the Strand last month was a tough act to follow, but still... There were maybe a few people in the crowd that was bringing the hype, so I appreciated that. I did get several of their songs recorded on video, but it was really hard to keep my camera steady, more so than it's ever been for me in the years gone by. I was trying to sit on a rail, but the balancing act was horrible on my part. Aw well.

7:26 PM - HaHa ran into Meg & Dia's old tour manager Shannon from two years ago and she still remembered me. Cool
She was working for myspace before, but this time around it looks like she's working for AT&T. I went over there, as my friend told me that she was here, and I wanted to see if she still remembered me. I stood nearby and just waited until she turned around. She looked my way, and gave this smile. She remembered me! I thought that was pretty cool, and we had a discussion about who was a better crowd for Meg & Dia, NorCal or SoCal. I was ssooo defending SoCal ofcourse, but she was all about how "NorCal" brings it. haha good times

7:35 PM - LoL just snucked back stage. Just look like you belong...
Since my friend had a guest pass from Victory Records, she gets to go back stage where the band's busses and rest area were. She, me and my other friend, just casually walked pass security, and just looked natural. haha it worked. Once back stage, we met up with another friend of ours, and even got to see Dia, Nick, Carlo, Jon, and Meg again. I made a fool of myself in front of Nick though, when I commented "I love the tie you used on stage," and he was all "what tie?" I blamed it on the heat, because I realize that what it was, was just his grey shirt underneath his white shirt which "looked" like a tie from a distance. I swear, I always happen to embarrass myself. Afterwards, my one goal was to drink something and find a seat. We took some of the complimentary root beer that were in coolers back stage, and wow did that taste good. Especially since I felt so dehydrated.

8:04 PM - Ugh. So damn more exhausted right now than I prefer. Should be rocking to Bad Religion right now, but I'm outside sitting on some steps.
Since my friend had to actually do work for Victory Records, and since I was her ride, I found the opportunity to just sit down and relax, while I waited. I was definitely very tired at that point, because I honestly wasn't that "prepared" to put up with Warped Tour yesterday (graveyard shift, lack of sleep). Once I got home, I pretty much just crashed. Next time, I will have more energy, and try not to rely on just frozen lemonade as my one source of nutrition.

  • - Racial stereotypes in Transformers? So apparently there are people up in arms over two robots in the movie that are suppose to sound and look "too black," if you get what I mean. I'm hearing this mostly from the media, because I haven't heard much from regular movie goers, as to how offensive the depiction really was. "Another Jar-Jar Binks" is what they are calling it. Is this just the media sensationalizing a possible political correctness issue, or is there actual cause to the complaints? I personally haven't seen the movie yet, so my opinion will have to remain in check for now. All I got to say now though, is that you don't normally get this much publicity from the media on political correctness when there are Asian stereotypes in popular media. I'm just saying...

    - That reminds me, I brought this subject up on my facebook, and since I'm on the subject of Transformers, I thought I'd post what I said over here on xanga. "It's weird but I'm actually not THAT excited to see Transformers 2. I should see it on the first day, but I'm actually waiting for Saturday." Now if you know me (even if it's just from my blogs), you figured that I would have seen this big genre movie on it's first day of release (yesterday Wednesday). But I didn't. Weeks ago I would tell you straight on that I am excited to see the movie on the first day of it's release. But I still didn't go. It's not because of the critics saying how bad the movie is either, because I AM aware that it's a Michael Bay film, so my expectations are already lowered (enjoyed the first one). A response from my friend probably made the most sense though... "Possibly you have a lack of motivation because the current iteration only shares a small thread with the original 80's version. I was excited to see the original, but when all the characters changed, and there wasn't a strong correlation between the two universes, my excitement diminished." Yeah, I can totally see that being a huge factor to my deflated interest in the movie. Not even Megan Fox was enough to get me to see the movie on it's first day, what with it's record breaking $60.6 Million opening day gross.

    - Speaking of Megan Fox, with her emerging back in the spotlight because of the movie, I'm starting to once again hear the conversation topic as to "WHY" a lot of people think she is hot. Really people? I admit that she isn't necessarily everybody's type, but still you can't deny why a lot of people find her attractive. c'mon now

    - Being that this has turned into a Transformers movie related blog post, here's a link that's pretty cool...
    http://www.weareautobots.com
It uses your webcam and overlays Optimus Prime's head on your face. The funny thing is that as long as what it's looking at looks like the profile of a human face, then it will still work. Like so below...

I went a little crazy and tried it on different things, and you can check them out in this link...

  • - Bing vs Google. A battle for your web searching needs, seems like a stupid thing to care about. Well, yeah, it kinda is stupid to care about it. Everybody's pretty much used to using Google and don't really think much about using an alternative, however I hear that Bing is suppose to be making some in ground. Recently I read how when it comes to search trends, Bing is beating Google in a relatively significant way. Bing is simply suppose to be more "up to date" than Google, which makes me think that maybe there is something to this Bing thing. So for these next few days, and possibly a week or two, I will use bing as my primary search... *ahem* i'm sorry... "decision" engine, and google will be my secondary. I might even consider only using bing, just to really test it out. Let's see how this goes...

    - Anybody else a little shocked at how popular Twitter really has become? It was popular before, but not it's just REALLY popular. At first I was thinking that although it can be a very useful tool, all the "non-substantial-news" that is usually found in Twitter, will cause it to eventually fade away like the fad it is. However with boosts from the Iran situation taking advantage of it, and any social networking news automatically being called "twitter" by the media, I'm thinking that this is going to stay for a relatively long time. Sure the argument about how Facebook can do what Twitter does and more do exist, and it's a fair question to wonder what makes it so different and special. The key thing that Twitter does right is that it caters to the public really well by being very accessible to the public. There's no need for friend requests in Twitter, which makes it easy for people to just jump on board, while Facebook still has a more "private" feel to it (which I do love). Just keep in mind that myspace also had a very public feel to it's social networking, and look where it's popularity is at now.

  • - Unless you are under the age of 21, growing up in general blows. To be more specific, aging sucks. You start noticing your health not being as great as it once was, especially when you neglect to keep more in shape. But that complaint is more "user error" than just growing old though, so whatever on that part. Lately though, I've noticed that I've gotten a little more forgetful about things. The funny thing is that I'm still able to remember the oddest memories from YEARS ago, but a situation that may have happened just a few hours ago would be out of my memory. I call it "selective memory," but maybe there's more to it than that. This blog of mine will come in handy in the future when I get amnesia or something....

    - On the subject of age, one thing that I seem to do lately, is to figure out how old people were 10, 15, 20, or 25 years ago, especially when I hear how old somebody is now. Usually this applies to actors that I've grown up with. For example, Harrison Ford is turning 67 years old next month, and I wonder how old he was when Star Wars first came out (answer : 35). Or how about Robin Wright Penn, who recently turned 43 this year, and turned out was 21 years old when The Princess Bride was released. It just fascinates me for some reason. I've never really thought about how old somebody was, back when I was a young boy, but now I'm all "he/she was that old in that movie?!" I guess it's because I'm simply comparing how old they were, to how old I was, in a particular year. It's as if I'm looking to the future at how much I personally could age, like they have.

    - Another thing of notice, is that i now have this small bald spot on the back of my head. Am I balding with age? There's literally a spot there that isn't growing any more new hair. I think it's a result of a wound that I got back there, from hitting the back of my head on something. What that something was, or when it happened, I dunno. It's kinda weird how I just completely forgot what happened, to give me this kind of a problem... it's the UFOs isn't it?
