Some recent TV show highlights...
- The series finale of "Monk!" Although I'm glad they wrapped up the main story line of "who killed Trudy," I didn't completely embrace how they came to the conclusion. Throughout the years there were hints about how it had to do with Trudy's job, and something she uncovered, but it ended up to be nothing of that sort. They did set the ending up for some possible future made for TV movies though, which I'm hoping will happen. Among other things about the show, I didn't like how Randy became dumber and dumber as the season went by, but I do much prefer Natalie over Sharona. I've been watching "Monk" for many many years now, and with this series ender, I will miss the talents of Tony Shalhoub in the title role, the supporting casts, and the light hearted nature of the show that makes it "less dreary" compared to the usual procedural dramas out there.
- I've never seen Spike's "The Ultimate Fighter" before this past season, and the reason was because I didn't want to watch reality TV anymore. Season 10 however had two fighters I wanted to watch, Kimbo Slice from youtube and EliteXC fame, as well as Roy Nelson who I'm familiar with from the IFL. Unfortunately, this season just reminded me why I didn't want to watch this reality tv show in the first place. Because of the reality tv emphasis on showcasing the cast's personalities, I ended up having the opinion that a good chunk of the show's fighters and even the coaches just come off very unlikeable personality wise. I definitely prefer the condensed background history reel that is played in MMA events, because actually getting to know some of these fighters is something I do not want to do anymore. I'll just enjoy watching them fight. On that note, there weren't that many good fights in this season either, with only a handful that I thought were actually worth watching. With all that said, I guess I'm not watching season 11 of "The Ultimate Fighter," and quite possibly anymore future seasons.
- The first two of the final "Dollhouse" episodes recently aired and only reminded me that I'm a little sad of the fact that this show is officially canceled (last episode scheduled for Jan 22, 2010). Sure the premise of the show is very unorthodox and very much a hard sell to viewers out there to embrace, but the themes and story ideas put on here is really very good. It's not very everybody, but those of us who do "get it" are really enjoying ourselves. Risk taking shows like "Dollhouse" being a huge hit is really becoming a rare thing in the TV landscape, and that's very very unfortunate.
