  • I got a little frustrated with a friend of mine earlier.  He
wanted me to listen to this CD he has, which he assured me that I would
love.  Well, being that I’m not really that picky with my music in
the first place, I figured what the hey.  So I busted out my
laptop and played the CD.  The first thing out of his mouth was
“you have to hear it through a loud stereo system.”  I questioned
why I should, and he said that it doesn’t sound good without it.
I argued that a song is good because of the song, not how loud it
sounds, and that I will be able to judge whether I like the songs or not
even with my default lap top speakers.  But he kept insisting that
it doesn’t sound good, that I won’t like it because it isn’t coming
from a loud stereo system. I mean
seriously, is that what determines what makes a good song?  Can’t
a song stand on it’s own, without any added help from how LOUD it’s
    suppose to be played?

oh, and for the record, even with my default lap top speakers, I did
like the CD.  I suppose it helped that I heard some of the songs
before already, and already knew that I would like the whole CD.

    He
still doesn’t understand my reasoning though, but coming from him, I’m
    not surprise.

  • Well I can see where you friend is coming from.  I have a sony Vaio laptop.  As far as sound quality goes, I find that laptop speakers are seriously lacking in quality.  Even pc speakers are 10 times better than laptop speakers, not because speakers are louder, but laptop speakers lack the range of other speakers.  Music out of laptop speakers are mono toned and seem plain and soulless.  Music on good speakers sound richer and fuller.  That’s just my opinion though and then again you might have quality laptop speakers.  Just my 2 cents.  Oh I miss my mtv.  :)

  • But that’s the thing about mono. You remember listening to music through the radio or AM? You’re still able to tell whether a song is good or not through the radio or AM, even if the sound quality isn’t that great. Same thing with lap top speakers. Afterall, I was just sampling the songs, I wasn’t actually trying to “engross” myself in it’s awesomness. I just wanted to hear it. I mean, he wants me to hear it, but he doesn’t want me to hear it because of my speakers. Maybe I should have just said, “in that case, I don’t want to hear it.” Then knowing him, he’s going to go “ooh, but you GOT to hear it, you’d love it.” *sigh* Then we can go another round and start all over again.

  • what song was it btw? or genre at least?

  • ’80s new wave music
