  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith
is a delightfully fun film. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie look like they
are having lots of fun with their characters, and director Doug Liman
does an excellent job balancing character interactions with the action
sequences.  The premise may be a little far fetch, and they always
seem to survive all these dangerous situations with no problem even
though the no names always seem to bite the big one.  But the film
is done in such a way that all the flaws are very forgiveable, and you
just have to throw yourself into a suspension of disbelief because you
are having so much fun with this action flick. The true star of the
show though is the chemistry between Mr. and Mrs. Smith.  Whether
they are acting like they are at ends with each other, or playfully
getting along, Brad and Angelina sold it to me.  Fun fun stuff,
    recommended. "B"

I know I have a soft spot to "secret identity" or "secret agent" stories, but I really shouldn't have bothered with Agent Cody Banks.
The premise is absolutely ridiculous, and looks like they didn't really
put much thought into it.  The characters are totally unbelievable
with some very poor over acting.  It's full of plot devices that
just goes nowhere, or goes to places they shouldn't go. It's also a
little bit embarassing for Angie Harmon to be that one CIA agent
dressed in a tight outfit all the time.  Don't even think of
equating Hilary Duff with acting. As for Frankie Muniz's Cody Banks, he
plays it innocently enough, but is stuck with horrible script writing.
If this is how the CIA handles things, I feel sorry for America. "D+"

  • Man, I never gotten road rage before, but I recently experienced it for
the first time.  I didn't get much sleep that day and I had to be
somewhere at a very specific time. So those are already two elements
that will go against me, lack of sleep and a time constraint.

I get on one of the main streets and there's traffic due to
construction.  Ofcourse, I wouldn't have even been on that street
if I knew that ahead of time, but it's a road that I don't normally
take. The construction crew also did a really horrible set-up to bottle
neck the three lane road to one lane, so ofcourse people are cutting
people off left and right.  I got cut off once by somebody who
didn't know how to wait his turn to merge.  I was upset and honked
my horn, but I think I was more upset that I didn't see it happening in
advance.  If I wasn't half asleep, I would have succesfully
    blocked him in.

So I wasted maybe about ten minutes on that road, but was finally out
of it with another ten minutes to get to my destination.  So what
happens? I start hitting a lot of red signal lights! and then I get cut
off another time by some lady who went straight on a right turn only
    lane.  If I wasn't half-asleep.....
and that's when I started really getting upset.  I had one thing
on my mind right now, CUT HER OFF!!! I realized by that time that I'm
experiencing road rage, but I didn't care.  As soon as I had the
opportunity, I passed her over.  I ended up not really cutting her
off, but it was good enough.

Luckily, the rest of the trip wasn't too bad.  I even got to my
destination with three minutes to spare.  But I learned one thing
    today.
Lack of sleep, time constraints, traffic, lots of red signal lights, getting cut off, and
people who can't follow the rules of the road that affects me, all happening within 25 minutes, will
cause me to go ROAD RAGE.

  • Batman Begins is the BEST BATMAN MOVIE SO FAR!

Impressed the hell out of me by how they did not compromise the
integrity of the characters & story by making a typical superhero
fantasy film. This is a FILM more than it is a comic book movie. This
IS the Dark Knight on the big screen.

    They did Bruce Wayne right.

    They did Alfred right.

    They did Jim Gordon right.

They did the relationship between Bruce & Alfred right.

They did the relationship between Batman & Gordon right.

They did Gotham City and it's people right.

They did the suit right (the cape's awesome).

    ...ofcourse, they did Batman right.

I've got to say that Tim Burton's first Batman will be more
approachable for the mass audience than Batman Begins does. The fact
that you don't see Batman until one hour into the movie is not going to
please some people. In fact, I've already heard these comments from
some of the movie goers. Me, I didn't mind one single bit and was
engrossed with the genesis of Bruce Wayne becoming the Dark Knight.

The scene were they first showed the Batman was pretty darn good, and
it felt more like one of those scary thriller movies where there is
this monster lurking in the shadows attacking helpless teenagers.

For comic book purists, history is reimagined and isn't entirely
faithful to the books, BUT it didn't matter, it worked so damn well.
Plus they did give us a nice nod to how Frank Miller's Batman: Year One
    ended.

My only complaint though is that the fight scenes aren't very "clear."
In part it helps portray the frenetic nature of fighting this "batman
creature," but I was hoping that maybe they could have avoided that.

I gave the first Tim Burton Batman a "B+" but I'm giving Batman Begins a solid "A"
(which makes it one grade better than what I gave SpiderMan 2 or Sin City).

Batman Begins joins a nice list of movies that gives RESPECT to the
comic book that they are based on. No dumbing down to children here.
Hopefully this will wake people up and accept that comic books and
their movies shouldn't be something that's only for kids.

Oh, and I love the Batmobile.

  • By now everybody knows that Michael Jackson was Found Not Guilty on all charges. Incredible isn't it?  But is it really that surprising?

It's been argued already that if it wasn't some celebrity like Michael
Jackson on trial, then a guilty verdict would have been most likely to
have happened. Just like what happened with O.J. Simpson, money that is
able to afford powerful attorneys can really really really help you.
Some of the jurors have already said that they believe that he is most
definitely guilty, BUT the prosecutors just did not present a very
strong case to sway them for a guilty verdict. Or maybe the judge did
not control the situation as well as he should have? Were the jurors
    paid off?

See what's been going on? People are looking for something to blame for
the verdict. Those who were in the Jackson camp are obviously relieved,
but can they defend themselves against the many out there that feel
that justice was not served? Should we still care anymore? Or should we
just be relieved that the bulk of the case is already over (the civil
court could possibly happen next)? What about the alleged victims of
    the alleged crime?

Surely, the aftermath of this will last for years to come.

  • So I was helping out my girlfriend pick up same lab samples for her
work.  We drove using her Honda Passport to the destination, and
it turns out that some off-roading was necessary to get to the
site.  All these years, my girlfriend was under the impression
that her car is a 4 wheel drive.  She was wrong.  So we were
almost stuck in a ditch, where her rear tires couldn't get traction at
all.  Fortunately, we were still able to back it up to get out of
there.  The workers on the site just had to drive the samples down
on their big trucks.  Stupid SUVs.

I also got to meet one of my friend's girlfriend.  She's a nice
girl and at first I thought we won't have much to talk about.  I
was wrong.  It turns out that she is a big music lover and we just
ended up talking a storm about music, songs, and the industry.
Unfortunately to my friend and my girlfriend, they couldn't really
contribute on the subject and they obviously felt a little left-out
("a little?"). We ended up doing karaoke afterwards on my xbox, so that was
fun.  I was able to sing some songs that I didn't think I could
do, which surprised me.  I guess you can say that I "found my
singing voice."  After we said our goodbyes, I went back to sing
some more Karaoke by myself for the next two hours.

  • Lifeforce
is the sci-fi movie that remained trap in the back of my memories, even
though I saw it almost two decades ago. The primary reason? Mathilda May
For those who've seen this movie, you know what I'm talking about. For
those who don't know, well, let's just say that she's NUDE for about
95% of her screen time.  God bless her for putting up with all the
male fantasies that went into this film. Besides that, I couldn't
remember if the movie was any good at all, so I had to re-watch it when
    I was given the opportunity.
Lifeforce is based off a novel, but that's besides the point I suppose
because the movie is pretty darn cheesy. The actors are over acting
sooo much it's actually hilarious.  The special effects weren't
bad for it's time, and if you ever wanted to see Patrick Stewart
of Star Trek fame in an unintentionally homosexual scene, this is your
movie. This is that movie you might want to bring out if all the guys
are over your house, and you'd like to invent a drinking game. "C-"

Lords of Dogtown peaked my curiousity on how the Z-boyz propelled the skateboard scene to new heights. I've never seen the documentary Dogtown and the Z-boyz,
but after watching this feature film, I now really want to. The film
itself is pretty good, following the history of these young boys that
started off as enthusiastic surfers into the ones who ignited the
flames of making skateboarding an "extreme sport."  Sure it kinda
follows that traditional biopic which starts with happy promises and
fame in the beginning, the inevitable fame / money breaks them up, to
the happy "we're still friends" ending.  The camera shots of some
skate boarding scenes didn't please me too much, as it's really a bunch
of quick cuts, which doesn't allow me to appreciate what I just saw so
much.  There are some really good skateboarding scenes though, so
it isn't all bad.  I've got to point out that Heath Ledger surprised the hell out of me, because it seems like he was chanelling Val Kilmer for his performance.  It's worth watching enough, and I enjoyed it. "B-"

    I remember Mortal Kombat
being a lot better than I thought it was. I suppose it was the
fanboyism back then that blinded me at how pedestrian this film is,
even though it paid pretty good homage to the video games that it was
spawned from. The acting was pretty luckluster, the story follows your
standard martial arts B-movie, and the fight sequences (while better
than the worse out there) had so much flaw that it's funny. Speaking of
funny, the fact that they literally used cheesy lines like "FINISH
HIM," "FATALITY," or "GET OVER HERE," like they do in the games comes
off a lot more hilarious than I think was intended. I suppose one main
advantage that this movie has is that it's still better than the sequel
    that's soooo horrible. "D+"
