    Your Eternal Question:

“What else do I need in my life?”

  • I was over at my girlfriend’s house while she was still at work, and I had our pet dog inside the
house to keep me company. At one point in the evening, my dog went over
to the screen door that leads to the backyard and just kept
barking.  Thinking that she just saw a rabbit or a squirrel or
something, I felt silly and started barking along with her for about a
minute. All of a sudden, I see this silhouette of a man in the
    backyard!

I was NOT expecting anybody at all to be there, so I quickly locked up
the accessway to the yard, closed the curtain, turned on the lights to
the back, ran up stairs, and got my big escrima stick just in case I
need to beat up on someone.  I contemplated calling 911 for an
intruder, but I wanted to see who it was first to make sure if it
    really
is an intruder. Oh, all this time, my dog just keeps barking. So I
peaked outside to see who it was and the person wasn’t in the backyard
anymore.  I peaked at the front of the house and I see the person
there, but it is in fact somebody I do not recognize.  I observed
this person looking around at the front lawn, and then when he was
done, he took off in his vehicle which was parked at the driveway.

Later on, once I got a hold of my girlfriend, she told
me that it was probably the handyman checking on the sprinkler system.
Yeah, I guess she just forgot to inform me that somebody was suppose to
show up. Oh well, it’s interesting to know that my first reaction in
this situation is to attack / defend first before asking questions.

  • Well, Lilja 4-Ever is one of those unrelenting movies that show the
ugly under belly of humanity and life.  Yeah, it was a depressing
movie, similar in emotions like Requiem for a Dream. You really feel
for the main character powerfully acted by Oksana Akinshina and the sad situation that she is living
through.  The film shows a life that you would not wish on anybody
you cared about, and also makes you feel angry that these things are
happening in the world we live in. It’s hard to completely recommend
the film to everybody due to it’s subject matter, but at the same time
I feel that it’s an important story that people need to be exposed to.
    A-

Here’s a simple fun movie staring Jackie Chan. The Accidental Spy
is honestly not really that special, and it follows the traditional
Jackie Chan movie formula. The stunt sequences have lots of destruction
and explosions this time around, with heavy use of vehicles. The fight scenes while not that huge on martial arts showed a
lot of ingenuity with the props and the cheoreography was simply
enjoyable to watch. Characters aren’t that memorable, although the
women as always in a Jackie Chan film (or James Bond for that matter)
were beautiful (Min Kim, Vivian Hsu). If this movie is going to be remembered for the most,
it’s the chase sequence with a naked Jackie. “C

hhmm, as much as I’m a dog lover, I regret watching this movie.  Because of Winn-Dixie
turns out to strictly be targeted for children.  Filled with lots
of childhood innocence situations and a lot of slapstick comedy
involving the dog, really made me raise my eyebrows a couple of times.
It’s not entirely a kid’s movie though since there are subject matters
that a parent will have to explain to their child. The main child
actress (AnnSophia Robb) is tolerable in her role, the musician Dave Matthews even has a part in this, and Jeff Daniels plays a good role as her father. The stand out performance though has to go to the dog itself. “D+

  • Well, they just finished up on a run of new Monk
episodes. The show has grown to be one of my favorite series of late,
because of it’s smart writing, it has a great ensemble cast, and the
fact that I’m a little obsessive compulsive myself (though nothing as
bad as Adrian Monk). The past years I’ve been for the most part only interested with serialized TV shows like 24, Alias, Lost, Veronica Mars,
etc… so my liking the show “Monk” is a bit odd in itself.  It
looks like I’ve been opening up to these procedural shows like Law & Order SVU, Numbers, etc, but my favorite of that bunch is Monk.  The show even survived a major cast change (Bitty Schram for Traylor Howard) without a hitch and in fact I think it’s better than before. Tony Shalhoub‘s got himself a legendary role here that will be remembered for a long time, and for that he should be proud.

  • I came across a profile of a female who happens to be Asian, and it said this…

“I’m attracted to white guys, I prefer white guys because growing up my
mom and dad always told me that anything American is better, I
basically grew up kinda ashamed of my heritage because my parents
wouldn’t let me speak Vietnamese/Chinese in the household. They made me
speak English all the time. They wouldn’t let me date asian guys or
black guys or hispanic guys, only white guys. They would not approve me
dating unless its a white guy.”

    WOW, that’s hardcore.

I’m from South East Asia myself, and I’m familiar with that position about
“anything American” is better, but my parents thankfully never forced that concept to me. I guess that idea was obviously shoved
down this girl’s throat though, and makes me wonder if there are people
I know who has this same exact perspective in life. Personally, I think
it’s kinda sad what her parents did to her.  Ideas like these are
what causes racism in the first place.

    Free choice people, free choice!

    Your Career Type: Social

You are helpful, friendly, and trustworthy.
Your talents lie in teaching, nursing, giving information, and solving social problems.

    You would make an excellent:

Counselor – Dental Hygienist – Librarian
Nurse – Parole Officer – Personal Trainer
Physical Therapist – Social Worker – Teacher

The worst career options for your are realistic careers, like truck driver or farmer.

  • *sigh* as mentioned in a previous blog entry,
it seems that my nice expensive video card seems to be acting wrong.
Well, after two hours of trying to figure out the problem myself, in
addition to two more hours of trying to figure it out with the tech
support guys (I had to go through two of them), for a total of four
hours, it’s official now that my video card is dead.  Not only was
that kaput, but my whole afternoon was shot because of it.  Well,
we were able to get the refresh rate problem fixed, but I now have
digital artifacting throughout my screen.  I should be receiving
the replacement video card sometime in the future, thanks to the
lifetime warranty it comes with.  But still…. it bites that this
    had to happen.
