  • movies I've seen recently...

    Domino
is not your typical action flick if you are going in thinking that.
It's also not a very straight forward film as it is very much hyper
stylized in the visuals and editing.  You can imagine being high
on drugs when watching the film, and some people can find it
distracting. The movie is all about Domino, and how her life as a
bounty hunter has brought her in a very dangerous situation between the
FBI, the mob, missing millions, 90210 stars and a reality TV film crew.
    Keira Knightley does
her best in portraying a woman who has nothing but a "**** if I care"
attitude, but also someone who even though may believe she loves living
on the edge of death, may actually simply want to live. "B"

As expected, The Batman vs Dracula is your typical straight to video animated film. While it makes great effort in raising the bar a bit compared to the series it's spawned from,
it's still more or less like a longer TV episode. Being a fan of the
show, I did enjoy it and it is serviceable as a generic
adventure/action movie, but it's not really for everybody to check out.

Here's another movie that should bring another best actress nomination for Charlize Theron. North Country
is a fictionalized story based on the first major successful sexual
harassment case in the United States.  It's a powerful and
emotionally charged film for sure, and if the cast and crew weren't
careful, it would have just ended up as an overly melodramatic soap
opera of a movie.  Luckily, I felt they succeeded in avoiding
that. What this movie did succeed is portraying how sexist a work place
can be, and we all should strive to make sure it doesn't get that bad
in our own work place. This movie is also a "david vs goliath" story
about a woman who has to have a lot of courage to fight the incredible
    odds against her. "B+"
