    Stick it (2006)  C

This is another movie from Jessica Bendinger, who was the writer of "Bring it on" which is a cult favorite of mine.  "Stick it" follows the same formula of being a little over the top, character's spewing corny lines that are quotable, and entertaining dance (in this case gymnastic) sequences. Basically a "fluff" movie. In regards to "Stick it" though, you gotta bring that formula down a notch. The movie can get a little too over the top for it's own good and the quotable lines aren't that quotable. What also surprised me about the movie is that there are "serious moments" that kinda takes you away from the fact that this should be merely a "fluff" film. I was also surprised to find that this movie is also a social commentary about the flawed system of judging in gymnastic. Despite me criticizing the movie, there were some enjoyable moments that saves it from being absolutely horrible. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the movie though, because I did it enjoy it.

    Just Like Heaven (2005)  B-

As far as "chick flicks" go, my biggest problem with them is how melodramatic they can get. Going into "Just Like Heaven" though, I knew that wasn't going to be too much of a problem. Sure this movie isn't entirely original, but it works that particular lite-romantic story formula so well, that I found it quite enjoyable. It also helps that Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo are great in it, and they play off each other so entertainingly well. Despite the premise requiring you to suspend disbelief, there are a couple of loose ends that I wish were wrapped up much better. This movie gave me a smile on my face throughout, and i'm not ashamed to say that as a guy, I loved the movie very much.
