  • Kinda out of the blue encounter happened to me. Recently, I met a voice actress for one of those Japanese Anime. It wasn’t a Japanese voice actress but an American voice actress that does the english dubbing for the western market. I asked her what anime she’s done or what her name was, but she said she didn’t want to say, and wanted to keep that information confidential. She did say that one of her anime is currently being shown on the Adult Swim programing network, so that could be a whole number of shows. I’ve been out of touch with anime for the majority of this decade, compared to the past decade where I was completely enamored with the medium (I was President for an anime club in college at one point). The fact that I was casually talking about all things anime with an actual anime voice actress (even if it’s “just” from the english dubs), was pretty neat. It almost makes me want to get more into anime again….. nnaahhhh

  • wooh, I just had my first real concern with my laptop. I booted it up and a split-second blue screen error message pops up, which forces it to reboot. Then it happens again, reboot, repeat… At that point I was thinking, “it hasn’t even been a year yet, please don’t die on me.” With all these reports about laptops catching on fire and what not, it’s easy to believe that technology nowadays is very fragile, and my not being an exception. I intend my laptop to go at least five years before my needing a new one too, so it needing repairs is something I want to avoid.

Now the first thing that comes to mind is that it could be a hardware problem in one of it’s components. I know the first thing some people think is that it’s possibly a virus or spyware or computer worm or something like that, but honestly though with the way I have my computer set up, I have not gotten any virus, spyware, or worms for a good couple of years now. Seriously. So it couldn’t possibly be a software issue…. or could it? Data can get corrupted.

In “safemode,” I looked around the Windows XP functions and come across “system restore.” Now, that could be the exact thing I need. I use to program, it does it’s thing, and asks me to choose a past “good state.” I chose one, rebooted again, and prayed for the best.  Everything starts up as normal, and as I’m typing this now, so far nothing bad has happened. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

  • People Envy Your Compassion
You have a kind heart and an unusual empathy for all living creatures. You tend to absorb others’ happiness and pain.
People envy your compassion, and more importantly, the connections it helps you build. And compassionate as you are, you feel for them.

What I’m listening to this week…

  • Well it finally happened, and I can’t say I wasn’t expecting it. My YouTube account has been permanently suspended due to copyright infringement. As much as we see copyrighted material all over youtube, it doesn’t mean somebody isn’t cracking down on them. I’m sure several of the videos I uploaded will show up in somebody else’s account, they’ll get it taken down, then somebody else will have it, and the cycle continues.

It’s unfortunate too, because I was rather enjoying uploading video clips from TV, the internet, and my own personal video recordings (concerts). I even got some honors from some of the videos I uploaded. The videos that seemed pretty popular that I uploaded were the “Wii vs PS3 spoof,” Dragonforce performing at AOTS, the X-Play Naruto funnies, and the Meg & Dia videos. I was able to achieve a ranking (out of the top 100) in “most viewed channel,” “most linked video,” “most linked video in music,” and “top favorite in music” in the short few months my youtube account existed.

I’m considering creating a new account to upload the legitimate stuff that I did have in my cancelled account, and I might have another one up as early as later this week. Maybe I’ll take advantage of xanga’s very own video option, or google video is also another possibility.

Next time around, I’m going to be just a little bit more careful with what I upload. In particular, I need to avoid videos that usually gets flagged for copyrighted material. The main complaints I personally came across from where NBC-Universal and Pay per view related stuff. I think movie related video clips also gets flagged, but I haven’t uploaded anything like that yet. I noticed that the videos I uploaded that no one seemed to care about copyright issues were TV commercials, foreign programming, G4TV clips (Attack of the show, x-play), and variety shows (the soup, best week ever). Maybe they were just moving really slow with removing those, or they really don’t care. Ofcourse, the stuff I personally shot footage for with my own digital camera should be okay (concert footage are debatable) and I had considered doing some anime music video type things or re-dubbing over existence footage spoofs. Either way, hopefully my next youtube account survives longer.

  • For a lot of people, the thought of going to a movie theater by yourself is something they simply would not do. It might have to do with some perception that you must be a loser who don’t have any friends to go to the movies with if you are going alone, or another reason altogether. I personally don’t see what the problem is, because I myself go to the movies by myself lots of times. As a big fan of the movies, I want to watch a lot of movies. I’m not going to wait for somebody to go with me, if I really wanted to see a movie. Sometimes it’s simply impossible to go to a movie with a group of friends, because of time and availability issues. So for those people out there who feel that they can’t go to the movies alone, you can. Alone or not alone, it doesn’t matter, just enjoy the movies.

  • I have an acquaintance at work who is in a band called “Darvoset.” Just this past day, in support of him, me and another friend from work attended the concert at The Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, California, his band was playing at. Darvoset is actually the opening act for the popular ’80s band “The Human League,” so that’s some good exposure for them to help them eventually get signed to a music label.

Darvoset performed well enough, although I had the same concern like last time I attended one of their concerts. My issue as that their lead singer has a great voice that works well with the electronic industrial goth sound the band has, but the volume for the vocals aren’t loud enough to my taste and gets overshadowed by the booming beats. I also feel that they need to rework their setlist, because they have some superior songs that would work better in a live environment as opposed to some of the songs they chose to perform. Despite my concerns, I think they did just fine. Always room from improvement.

There was also a second opening act between Darvoset and The Human League that was called “Blood Proxy.” That band is also looking to be signed to a music label, and coincidentally enough, one of it’s members used to be in one of Darvoset’s incarnations. They were okay, and sounded like another generic traditional rock band. Also needs room for improvement.

As for Human League, although I was familiar with who the band is, I realized that I did not know a lot of their songs. Me and my friend were listening to the first songs and were wondering what songs we did know that was theirs. It wasn’t until about forty minutes into their setlist when we finally heard a song we knew. I suppose that’s to be expected as most bands save their most recognizable songs until the end. Out of their one hour and fifteen minutes set list, we knew about five songs, but they were great songs that were worth the price of admission.

  • Just this past week, there’s this trend of people and the media talking about how there’s a lot of good programming on TV. In fact, somebody even mentioned how this is the new “golden age” of television. I suppose that’s true. We have more solid dramas and comedies on air, as a lot of networks are taking more risks with “non-traditional” programming. Those risks are working. Movie actors are flocking towards TV dramas, because “the best scripts are showing up for TV, more so than the movies.” Now more than ever, TV is proving that it’s a very respectable medium, and not just the “idiot box.”

I understand that there are people out there who don’t have the time and luxury to watch TV, and I respect that. What I don’t understand are the people who refuse to watch TV because “there’s nothing good on.”

Despite the wealth of new good TV shows, I’m going to follow my old “not watching anything new, because I don’t want to get hooked on yet another show” rule. The only new show that I’m going to give a chance is “Heroes,” but even that’s not a for sure thing.
