I have an acquaintance at work who is in a band called "Darvoset." Just this past day, in support of him, me and another friend from work attended the concert at The Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, California, his band was playing at. Darvoset is actually the opening act for the popular '80s band "The Human League," so that's some good exposure for them to help them eventually get signed to a music label.
Darvoset performed well enough, although I had the same concern like last time I attended one of their concerts. My issue as that their lead singer has a great voice that works well with the electronic industrial goth sound the band has, but the volume for the vocals aren't loud enough to my taste and gets overshadowed by the booming beats. I also feel that they need to rework their setlist, because they have some superior songs that would work better in a live environment as opposed to some of the songs they chose to perform. Despite my concerns, I think they did just fine. Always room from improvement.
There was also a second opening act between Darvoset and The Human League that was called "Blood Proxy." That band is also looking to be signed to a music label, and coincidentally enough, one of it's members used to be in one of Darvoset's incarnations. They were okay, and sounded like another generic traditional rock band. Also needs room for improvement.
As for Human League, although I was familiar with who the band is, I realized that I did not know a lot of their songs. Me and my friend were listening to the first songs and were wondering what songs we did know that was theirs. It wasn't until about forty minutes into their setlist when we finally heard a song we knew. I suppose that's to be expected as most bands save their most recognizable songs until the end. Out of their one hour and fifteen minutes set list, we knew about five songs, but they were great songs that were worth the price of admission.
