  • There was a "Ralph's rant" on the Kevin & Bean show recently, and it's something I myself have thought about. People are too suckered into the idea that you have to be able to eat more food for less money. I'm sure at some point you've heard somebody comment "so and so is better because you get more food for a better price." I'm all for the value of the dollar like everybody, but are we all forgetting that America has an overweight problem? Do we really need to give ourselves an excuse to eat more food just to make the cost of the meal seem "worth it?" Fast foods, restaurants, and the food industry in general are bombarding us consumers into their many promotions like "buy one hamburger for one dollar and get a second one free," or "don't settle for a 32oz soft drink, upgrade to a 46oz for just a few cents more!" If you go into a restaurant with a party, these kinds of promotions are definitely something you can take advantage of. Honestly though, a lot of people are taking advantage of these kinds of promotions for themselves, one person. We all should be ashamed of ourselves, especially when there are many starving people out there in the world.

  • it's true, people shouldn't order those sizes for themselves--at least share what you can with one other person dining with you!

i think that's the biggest problem though--the world expecting the rest of the world to feed them. everyone works for what they have and i'm not saying that it's fair how some parts of the world have it better. handing them money for food isn't gonna solve the world food problem and neither will handing them food. i once had a prof that was very adamant about actors who make like a million dollars per movie, donate all of the money to another country. why would anyone WANT to work then?
