  • What I learned about Hawaii. It reminds me a lot of how the Philippines is, what with the roads, houses, the rural areas in general, and the weather. The big city areas like where we were at; Waikiki, is pretty much like most big cities in the USA, except there's a certain Asian influence to how the stores & shops are laid out. The speed limit here is too slow for a SoCal person like myself, with it averaging 25-35mph tops. Hawaiian guides like having tourists repeat Hawaiian words in a group, as if we're back in elementary school or something. I repeat Hawaiian words so much, that just out of reflex I end up repeating english words too. I love saying Hawaiian words like kamehameha or kalakaua.Things are more expensive than expected, but the sales tax is really low. There are no billboards here, nor are there seashells or seagulls at the beaches. I could never tire walking down the street of Waikiki and see bikini-clad women. All in all though, my friend is right, it's hard to leave Hawaii when you're here.
