- The Sept 12 release of Metallica's newest album "Death Magnetic" is coming up soon, and they recently premierred one of the new songs "Cyanide" at Ozzfest this year. All metal-heads online (including myself) have weighed our opinions on the song, compared it to previous songs and albums by the band, and ofcourse speculated on what the new album would sound (silly, based on one song?). It's fascinating at the many different impressions people all over the place are having, and it goes to show that songs in general feel, look, and sound, different to everybody. After hearing the song lots of times now, I gotta say I'm really loving
it. It's the bass groove and the main riff that pulls me in. It's not a pure
thrash metal sound, it's not really that fast and sorta has a laid back
feel to it, but it still makes me want to frickin move around, like a Metallica song only should!- I recently got a chance to watch the 6th Annual Visual Effects Society Awards on HDNet, and like other awards shows, I placed my guesses on who will win among the nominees. Despite the fact that I had several "...for sure they would choose..." moments, I mostly got it wrong. I at least had some preconceived knowledge on what Visual Effects artists like; water physics and robots, but that only took me so far. I learned that it's not necessarily what "looks good" that wins, which
goes against what regular joes like me usually look for in visual
effects. Simply put, I had absolutely no idea what visual effects people would vote for, which I suppose goes to show how much we don't know what goes on behind putting those special effects in movies.
