Ever see an old friend or acquaintance, and when you greet them you end up not having anything to say? I would have said "no" to that answer, until half a day ago...
Out in the public, I was walking one way (work related) and all of a sudden I noticed that the person walking the other way, but approaching me nearby is an old classmate of mine from High School. Now that's a long time ago, considering that I'm from the class of 1995, and I did not even bother to attend the ten year reunion. She was carrying a child and was with a man, but I went ahead and casually called out her name. I only called it out once, but she slowly realized somebody called her name, and gave me that look that says "wait, I know this person somehow." When she figured out who I was, I just said "hi, how's it going?" gave her a hug. She said "this is my boyfriend" pointing to the man she was with, I shook his hand. Then I said, "wow, it's been a long time hasn't it?" She agreed. Then I started to walk away and waved, so she said "okay, I'll see ya around," and she went on her way.
That's it! That's all I did. What's wrong with me? What the heck was I thinking?!
I should have at least exchanged information, maybe asked her who the child was, tell her what I was doing... Something. Anything. I knew her for four of those High School years, and all I did was greet her and walked away. I was freakin acting stupid meeting her, and that was embarrassingly rude. Admittedly I was on a schedule and needed to be somewhere, and it looked like to me that she did not have a lot of free time either, but that's no excuse. Did I mentally decide that I did not want the conversation to go on further, because "we were too busy for that?" I mean really now?

I think you're being a little too hard on your self. Not only did you notice and recognized her as someone in the past, you even remembered her name! On top of that, you made the effort to make contact. All in all, it was act that showed that she wasn't forgotten, which is a huge compliment.
@dtranrob - thanks, but I dunno. I would at least like to have the opportunity to say hi to her properly next time. But then I did not get her info, so d'oh!
I think you subconsciously decided what was important to you. These days there isn't even enough time to just relax and hang out with friends you keep in touch with. How likely would you have even gone to contact the person if you did get all the contact information.
@darren_macintyre - i can agree with this
