  • Movies I've Seen Recently...

    The Incredible Hulk  (2008)  B

It has to be said that the Shakespearean drama
that was Ang Lee's Hulk is no where to be seen in "The Incredible Hulk."
    Director
Louis Leterrier with primary screenplay by Zak Penn serves the character well by establishing the
Hulk's typical if somewhat simple and predictable plot, that is more in tune to what
comic book fans are looking for.
    Plot
holes and some coincidences with how things progressed were mostly
ignorable. Keeping this from being a subpar super
    hero film,
Edward Norton as Bruce Banner is the one that elevates this
movie, making us care about his character and the story. While it's cool to see Hulk
Smash in several of those action sequences, I have to admit that
the CGI of the Hulk was definitely hit or miss, with some scenes
looking pretty believable, while some scenes (particularly the close
ups to his face) looking like a cut scene from a video game which took me out from the movie if for just a moment. While not a classic movie by any means,
The Incredible Hulk is an enjoyable film that's fun to watch.
Comic book geeks will also get a kick out of seeing all the extra cameos and elements taken from the comic book universe as well.

    Teeth  (2008)  C

There is one fatal flaw with "Teeth," and it's that it doesn't embrace the fact that it really is a typical "B movie." Unfortunately, it seems to try to take itself a little too seriously as a sort of indie art house horror movie, and really should be embracing the comedic and fun opportunities that could have been had. At first the story starts out rather slow and just stupid to watch. It isn't until we see the first real encounter with the "vagina dentata" that the story starts picking up, and lead actress Jess Weixler gets to finally bring her character more to life. High concept plot with cheap dialogue, meets low budget and under produced film, is definitely what Teeth is.

John Tucker Must Die  (2006)  C

Just another story by the numbers teen comedy. As predictable as it is, "John Tucker Must Die" is tolerably entertaining enough, that I was able to ignore the flaws that the movie has. At least the cast serve their purpose well and look like they are having fun with the material. I liked the story and characters enough, that despite the glaringly insipid ending, I rather enjoyed myself watching this movie. For some people, this film definitely has the ingredients of being a guilty pleasure, so just enjoy it for what it is.

  • You Are a Little Negative...
You can be negative from time to time, but you rarely go overboard.
You have a realistic view of the world, and most people appreciate your honest insights.

Like everyone else, you have your darker moods.
But when you're feeling super negative, you keep your feelings to yourself.

What I've Been Listening To Lately...

  • Is it just me or have you also noticed that there are less cars on the road? Not like a huge chunk less, but less than what you would normally expect. Is the increase of gas prices making that much of a difference, that there are fewer people leaving their homes? People still need to drive to work, so I'm guessing carpooling is at an all time high? Without people going places, there's bound to be less people buying stuff, which doesn't help the currently struggling economy. I guess home entertainment items like video games or movies are reaping the benefits of people finding excuses to rather entertain themselves at home, as opposed to having fun outside.

I've also noticed a more common thread of stores and restaurants closing shop. One of the local super markets that's been around since I could remember, is actually going out of business. Man, times are tough right now for a lot of people. On the flipside, I've also noticed a lot of development going on still. There's even a new shopping mall opening up near where I work, where just about 80% of it's stores are restaurants. So restaurants are doing okay in this economy? I suppose that's one of the last things people are willing to give up to save money for the time being. Later on though, they might have to just stick with home made meals. The economy is really poor right now, and I'm afraid that we may not have even seen the worst of it yet.

  • DirecTV recently had another one of their free weekend previews of some premium channels, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Stars, etc... I'm one of those people who believe it's just not worth paying extra for those channels over the "extended-basic" package. Since they were free for the weekend however, I got another taste of what it would be like to have them. Basically, it's just like having a variety of movies constantly playing in the background; oh and some soft porn and sport events and such. Sure there are some original series available, but unless you really really want to watch those, is it really worth paying extra? IMHO, it really isn't, and it's easier to just think of those shows as possible future DVD rentals on Netflix. That was pretty much how this free weekend was for me, have a movie or a show playing on the background, while I'm doing something else, which is no different than when I don't have those premium channels. I did take advantage of watching an EliteXC MMA event on Showtime (a couple of good fights), which I may or may not have paid for on Pay Per View. Don't be conditioned to think that you have to have premium channels with your cable or satellite people, it's not really worth the extra monthly fees.

  • ah, my poor white dog. Recently he was chewing and licking on his front right paw a lot. Something was obviously irritating him, but I couldn't figure out what it was. Then one early morning I noticed that he had an actual cut on that paw. I took him to the vet and the poor thing was so scared that he actually had some anal secretion. It smelled pretty bad. The vet "glued" his wound together and recommended I use neosporin for it. To make him avoid licking and chewing on his front right paw again, we decided to try a couple of ways to stop him from doing that. First we put a sock on his front right leg; a human sock. That did not last long and it fell off easily. Secondly, we put on an actual sock/boot for dogs, but that also did not last long and fell off. Third, we used an old long sleeve shirt and put it on him, tying the end of the one for the right leg. That did not work either and it too fell off. It was rather cute and funny seeing him with those socks and the shirt though, and I can see why some people like dressing up their pets. Luckily at the end, he stopped bothering his right paw, so all is well.

    Silly white dog.

Those links up there? You don't even have to read them. They are just more bad press about one of my most favorite bands, Metallica. Apparently, Metallica played some unfinished songs off their upcoming new album to a bunch of journalists in a listening party, then later on proceeds to tell them to not post any impressions on the internet. Kinda sucks right, and proves how they are just a bunch of greedy dicks who hate the internet so much ever since the Napster case in 2000? The internet community hates Metallica because of what happened with Napster, and the metal community hates Metallica because they cut their hair and tried exploring new styles of making metal music. Now there is something else to hate Metallica about.

However, as posted from their website (http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=600942),
it shows that Metallica DID NOT tell those journalists to remove the
impressions from the listening party. It was an idiotic move on the
part of their managers Q-Prime, who for some odd reason did not think
this would make Metallica look bad when they did that. At a time when they are getting ready to release a new album too? WTF?! Metallica
should just fire them for bringing up even more bad PR.

By the way. Freakin Napster. I admit that the whole thing could have been handled much much better by Metallica, but still they fought for what they believed in. I just wish people would just let it go already. So for those people still stuck in the early 2000s, Metallica has already said after
the Napster fiasco that you can go ahead and download their songs
all you want. They don't really care if you steal their music or not.
So stop saying that they don't want to "share" their music or want you to download them, because they don't care! They went to court for the principle of it all (they dropped their
lawsuit towards the end), and the fact that iTunes is king now proves
it. Besides, Metallica was the scapegoat for the "vs Napster" thing,
when many many many other artists were on their side.
However, those other artists just weren't as in your face as Metallica,
who had to stand in the negative spot light on their own and take the
fall. I guess those other artists made the right call, because they
don't have to keep facing the baggage about Napster that Metallica
still has to put up with.

Bad PR. No matter the good that Metallica has done, it's still mostly bad PR from the media and the communities that gets seen out there. It's all because they are a band who doesn't play it safe with their opinions and decisions. They took chances and they only get hate for that. Is that fair? I swear it's hard to be fan of Metallica today, when there is this huge mountain of opposition against them. It's a good thing their music reminds me why I'm still a fan, and that's what counts in the end.
